HI
Is the XR 650 L the same as the 650 R just with crappy suspension, an electric leg and detuned for emissions
OR
Is it a different bike altogether to a 650 R??
Is 650 L’s frame the same- design, geometry and strength as the 650 R’s???

What other things does the L have and the R doesn’t and vice versa??

I have been looking at fixing a minor crashed 650 R. The $$ are mounting up (+$2000) and I am now looking at an alternative path.

I would like to know your opinions:- if I spend the same money replacing the crappy suspension on a 650 L with a proper suspension set up and fitted a HRC cam will it give me a 650 R with an electric leg??

Thanks

"making a 650 R out of a 650 L- how ?? "

1.Go to yer Honda dealership
2.Trade in said 650 L
3.Pop for dealer installed Baja Designs street legal kit
4.Drive away on new 650 R(Or if in Cali, load in back of truck and argue with DMV until ya give up and go buy back said 650 L)

That help?

They are completely differnt bikes, don't even think the red is the same color.

They are totally different, go to the Honda site and read the specs.

The list is endless, in fact I can't think of one part that would be the same.

Alloy frame vs steel
water cooled vs air cooled
different brands of suspension.....for starters

You could possibly transplant an engine from one to the other but it would require a huge amount of work, with possibly mediocre results. A lot of effort goes in at the design stage to balance everything which is something that would be near impossible to do at home. At the end of the day the possible end result just doesn't seem worth the effort.

Which state are you in?

Have you tried to source parts from the wreckers?

Also some guys on here part out bikes now and then, possibly get some shipped over.

What do you need to fix it?

Photos?

Yes, they are exactly the same. in fact they share the same engine and frame as the GoldWing amd the CBR600RR. Good luck! :banghead:
