Anyone else got a YZ400??

Recommended Posts

Hi people just wondered if anyone else here has a YZ400 mines a 1999 and im extreamly happy with the bike soooo much power.. :banghead:

I find i get bored of the old 2 strokes quite quick apart from the CR500s ive had 2 of them so far but i always find that i end up thrashing the life out of them.. But i cannot ever see me getting bored of this bike..

Just wondering if thiers any things i should watch out for with the YZ as far as maintanance is concerned and any other things that i could do for the bike to ensure i look after the bike properly..

Im a bit new to four strokes as ive mainly had 2 strokes all my life..

Cheers Andy

I've got a '98 and it's still running strong. I replaced the timing chain a little while back and recently had to put a new AP pump diaphragm in the carb, but other than that the thing is a rock solid beast. I'm not a competitive rider so I have no real need for the latest and greatest; plus I can ride mine anywhere in california year round (green sticker). Enjoy! :banghead:

Hi guys thanks for the replies.. Ive only had the bike a few weeks and i was told that it had a oil change just before it was sold to me.. I will check the filter on my next day off,,, Just wondering how often should i change the oil??

Yea the power on these things are intense??

Definatly takes a bit to get used too Must be sooo funny watching me around the track being as i was used to the old 2 strokes ive been taking them around the whole track in the band, Then i get on this thing and i go around most of the track with the front wheels in the air.. Just crack that throttle open comming out of a corner and shes up, Someones getting close behind it must look like its got nos as i give it handful to get away from them and the wheel flys up and i shoot off... :banghead: Amazing stuff.

Verry happy with it.. :applause:

I would do a search in the forums for this question. I heard they corrected some of the issues on both models with the following years: '99 400 and '01 426.

I've also read that owners of '98 400's and '00 426's haven't encountered any issues. I guess it's the luck-of-the-draw, unlike my Powerball ticket the other night (Damn it)!

(they stretch)oh ya if it bogs when cracking the thotle cheak the ac pump linkage they are external on the 99's and like to get dirty.BTW use a honda clutch pertch and lever waaay better :applause:
