dent puller used on oil seal?

I need to replace a oil seal on the counter shaft of my '96 XR600. I was told an easy way to do this is with a small dent puller and a small drilled hole in the seal itself. Anyone try this before? What other techniques are there for an easy extraction? Does the new seal tap in with a mallet? I want a tight seal about as much as a horny walrus. Thanks for any input... ~Paul

I've used a dent puller for removing seals, works fine... hopefully, the old seal will come out in good shape ... just flip the old seal over, place it on top of the new seal, and use it as a buffer to tap in with a hammer ... saves wear and tear on the new seal ..
