Triple Clamps.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I have searched the previous posts on triple clamps. I would like to get some aftermatket clamps to make more room in the cockpit. I already have Jimmy Button bend bars, so I have enough height, just need to get the bars out of my lap.

I had read some info about the Scotts or White Bros clamps that reduce the wheel base on the 98 & 99's (I have a 99). I heard that they can make the bike "twitchy". I have a damper so this doesn't concern me as much. I will also be installing a 52T rear sprocket. Will this lessen the weighting of the front? By moving the rear wheel up (not installing a new chain).

The bike is used mostly for MX and some woods riding.

What are you guys using and/or what thoughts do you have for me?

Bill

Bill-

As you know, I have a '00 with stock clamps and bar risers. The scotts clamps emulate this position for the 98/99's. I use 14/52 gearing, stock chain size, and raised the forks about 6-7mm. I do use the damper, but when I didn't have it, twitchiness was NOT a characteristic of the bike- even with all the changes. The gearing (wheelbase change) and fork movement did make the bike more flickable, that's for sure, but I never really felt twitchiness like a 2-smoker. I don't think you have much to worry about unless you go overboard raising the forks.

Rear suspension settings have a large impact on the handling and front end feel too. Stiffening up sag/compresssion will weight the front end more. Make sure you adjust your sag properly, this is REAL important.
