KYB suspension fluid - group purchase

Hey guys,

I'm just about ready to put in another order for some KYB suspension fluid and thought that it may be helpful for others on TT if we did one large group purchase, (if the TT gods don't mind).

Price is going to be about $9.09 per quart bottle on the FR01 fork fluid, and $12.20 on the SK-2C shock fluid. Could be a tad more, could be less. I'm not in the business of selling oil so whatever the price is from Enzo is what we pay. In either case, it's still a great price.

Getting it from me to you will also add a few bucks as well.

I'm certainly open to a debate on just about any subject. Sometimes it's the only way to learn things.

But come on, you have to at least include some details to back up a rather abbreviated opinion as such.

The KYB/Enzo fluid is one of the most viable fluids I have ever tested for extreme motocross and supercross applications.

That doesn't mean that it will offer the same "performance" (dare I use that word) as ATF would seemingly magically offer the casual trail rider - if that's what you're leading to.

Dave I know one that will mix ATF with KYB/Enzo 01......for what he calls the ultimate suspension oil....your thoughts?

came out looking like snot when i pulled it out of every stock yamaha i ever changed the fluid on(which is 5 to be exact) and if its same thing that they say to put back (yamaha 01 fluid) then yes i was not impressed with it. it seems to allow aeration more than others i have used,as if the snot thing wasn't enough i use straight mobil 1 synthetic ATF,not only is it cheaper but works better in the conditions i ride anyhow. its supposedly 7 1/2 wt and does seem to be a little stiffer but i like that. it comes out like it went in is the thing i like about it,seems to reduce stiction also

I don't use the KYB fluid. I don't know what advantage there would be over other 5wt suspension fluids, which I no longer use anyway.

I get better results from Mobil1 Dexron III.

I replaced my original KYB fluid with more KYB fluid. Both times it came out like snot. I switched to Mobil 1 Synthetic. I liked it on the trail, but didn't like how its heavier weight slowed down the fork's action on the MX track when it gets rough. I also didn't like how it was so slick, it constantly squeezed its way past the fork seals. It never made a mess, but I could see it. When I dumped the Mobil 1 out, it looked the same as when it went in. Now I'm using the Honda SS7 5 weight. Someone here on TT recommended it. I like it much better than the KYB. Its cheaper, it stays behind the same seals and I prefer the 5 weight on the track.

Backing off the clickers a ways should have cured the first issue. I have no leaks with it at all. The viscosity difference is not that great (5 to 7), and it works better than the 7 wt fork fluids I tried.

I played with the clickers and the fluid level. I just couldn't find a happy place. I never really had any leak. I just had a light film of reside on the sliders all the time. With the Honda 5 weight filled 105mm from the top I do still bottom more than I like to. I know when its going to happen though and I'll live with that until I can have the forks re-valved. I may be facing shoulder surgery, so the re-valve could be soon. I'm not against trying out the Mobil 1 again.

Grayracer, are you using the synthetic?

I tried this once but I didn't have the means to take any valid measurements on the results, so the only comment is really by the feel of my pants. From that, it felt fine and didn't seem to have any complications.

This is interesting, and you obviously were not the only person to comment as such. Of all the fluids I have flushed, be they from the factory or some other source, I've never seen anything come out as "snot". Usually just a lot of contamination. But perhaps it has something to do with my change intervals. Perhaps the KYB fluids are not designed for the long term.

However, after a lot testing with various oils, this is still the one that yields the best performance....in my opinion.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Perhaps one day I can post some real test data for everyone.
