I was doing a thanksgiving ride to one of my favorite areas by myself...(I know I know don't tell me...don't ride by yourself, my riding buddy broke his leg a couple of weeks ago. And I don't have anyone to ride with.) I stopped at the top of this hill to let some air out of the tires..it was real squirlly until I did that...anyway this guy stops on a brand new KTM 520...very nice bike I might ad...so he ask me where I was riding...so we rode together I showed him some new stuff (some tight single track) he showed me a new bitchen trail...it was a great day...to top it all off he asked me if I raced...I said...no..I am planning to..I just need more time in the saddle...He said no way man I RACE..and your kicking my ass all over the place, your riding skills are awesome. That really made my day. So I have a new riding buddy...One thing though, that KTM is 8 GRAND!!! damn that is alot.

Question #1 , did you buy your WR new. How much. Then how much in after market stuff did you add. Now total it all up. Close to 8k? Maybe? I recently purchased the 400 exc. Yes expensive, but other than a skid plate and some bark busters, nothing ever needs to be added. My opinion. I love both bikes.

Mike , how was the Thanksgiving ride? I am totally bummed that I had to miss out. :D If you have another ride up there in the spring time, please let me know. In His name, Erik. By the way, I think us KTM -ex WR owners are pretty O.K. dudes. ?

Mike I have been meaning to ask you how you liked your EXC. I would love to get my hands on one or the 520, electric start that would be great!(of coarse I was making fun of my friend this weekend with his electric start quad) I was thinking of getting one if I sold my WR. My reason being that it is lighter and the seat is lower. What is the horsepower on yours, do you know? Yes, I bought my WR new and no, it is bone stock. I still did smoke the 520...BUT I do admit it is more rider skill than the bike. I am sure if I had the 520 and he was on my bike I still would of out rode him. There is ALWAYS someone better than you or me for that matter. I was "on" that day. You know how it goes some days are good others aren't.

Erik

You missed a great ride. A little snotty at times a little snow and ice at the higher elevations, but all in all a great ride. We missed you and hopefully in spring you can get up this way.

K---Yes I love the bike. I loved the WR as well. To me, the KTM is easier for ME to ride. It is lighter, I love the E start especially on an uphill get off and the power is great. The WR in comparison to the KTM has more grunt overall probably more power. The KTM's power to me is great and much more manageable. I think it depends on the type of power you are looking for. If you want balls to the wall power all the time, the WR is the place to stay. I suppose I needed a break from that kind of power. (did I just call myself a pansy. probably) Overall RPM's I am not sure of but it does a great job in all areas, trails, MX (dices like a 2 stroke), hills etc. It is a great all around bike. My buddy has a 520 exc and his major complaint is that on hills it has too much power, digs a lot. That is why I went with the 400. I don't think you can go wrong with either bike the WR, KTM 400, 520, 426. they are all great 4 stroke machines.

And Pete, you are correct, it doesn't matter the bike, it is who the person is. At stoneyford on Friday I rode with YZ's, WR's, KTM's, and Huskies All great bikes, all great friends.

Try running a tank of diesel through it.  She'll fire right up.

Everytime i sit on my dirt bike in stops and this is when it running

Go to the link below you are in the yamaha forum here. XR forums are pretty good for help.

Go here:

https://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/23-xrcrf-80-200/

BTW:

Check all the visible electrical connects. With the bike turned off check your spark plug connection and also take a look at the wires around the handle bars like the kill button. After that,  start your bike don't get on it and let it run for a while,  see if it cuts out in time without you getting on it. If it runs for a while (like 10 minutes) then start mounting the bike a step at a time and see if you can reproduce exactly when it cuts out.

how funny...I purchased my first KTM from So Cal Eric and just sold it about a year ago.  At the time it was a nearly stock KTM 400 SX.  When I sold it I had MXC gears installed, electric start, a 490 kit, plated, about 1.5K worth of suspension work, and a few other things I cant remember.   The new owner is very happy with it currently residing in Vegas.
