Am i missing something?

Every xr650l i see has a "device on the left side of the engine right above the case. I however do not. It bolts to the two holes pictured below. What exactly is it and do i need one?

It is where the air pump used to be. It had a pulse air system that injected air into the cylinder head between the exhaust pipes of the header. It should have 2 block off plates on the head at that location. You don't need it it was just extra weight.
