jumping the 426

anyone encountered problems jumping the 426 due to compression, i've jumped my xr250 several times, nothing massive, but i noticed if my throttle wasn't dead even (constant speed) the front would dive or lift, deceleration and acceleration respectively. if so you did have problems you find it easy to adjust, cos i'm thinking the 426 would have more comp than my xr and therefore be more susceptical to variations of nose height, or am i way off.... i mainly will be using the 426 to beat my way through the bush as fast as i can, but my mate has a yz250 and he likes jumping, and so he often try to out jump each other.

i ask as i'm another step closer to owning a 426. so close. got mum to be my guarantor,(good ole mum, ?) so now just need her to fill out the form sign the dotted line, then wait for approval, then woohoooo!!!!!

(hope i can kick his 250 pinger's ass in a straight )

and don't have to pay a single cent till half way through next year...

I dont have any problem jumping the 426, just watch about letting off in the sand it likes to nose dive. Have fun it's a great bike

yea and never let off the gas drastically on a jump face......will cause endo city and a dirt nap....

Just keep in mind that while we all love our 426, most of our complaints come from its weight, and jumping a tank is fun, but can be dangerous to your health...LOL

I have no problems what so ever jumping my 426. It's a straight and predictable flyer. The only advice is don't totally chop the throttle on the jump. The compression braking will cause you to drop your front tire. I've never had it make me to endo, but it can be a little exciting. Just keep the throttle on steady and you will have no problems. If you are concerned about it, I would say don't worry about it. It really isn't a problem at all. you'll love jumping the 426 compared to your XR250.

I went from a YZ250 to a 426. I noticed a difference when jumping both of them. The 426 is heavier than a 250 but for me it is more manageable as long as I keep the throttle on steady. I just had to learn a new technique. I now love to jump it at tracks and sand dunes.

Also make sure your chain tension and rear rebound are set properly.

Can anyone out there whip the 426?

These bikes can handle some airtime that's for sure. I know I can't whip anyways regardless the bike, but its seems easier to move the newer 450s around especially in the air I guess just due to how much less they weigh and how it's distributed.

Yeah, the 426 rocks. I ride a mostly stock 2000 and I have been doing fairly well at the track. I can clear all the doubles with ease and the corners are getting easier. It is my first year riding dirt so those 30ft doubles seemed huge at first, but the bike rocks. I don't have any trouble starting it either. It starts first kick 90% of the time and second kick the rest of the time. Usually I have mine started before my 2 stroke buddies. I just can't wait to check out the 06-I hope it rocks!!!!

I loved how my 426 handled in the air. Set up the suspension properly and stay on the gas! No huge air in the pics below.....but I smile looking at them ! The 426 is a very underated machine. Heavy yes, fun YES.
