White Bros pipe

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys,

Just picked up a 99 400f; it's my first bike after getting rid of my quad. It's got a pretty nice White Bros E Series carbon fiber pipe on it, which is unlike anything I have ever seen. The end of the pipe is plugged and spark arrested, and exhuast escapes through several slits toward the end of the canister instead of out of the back end of the pipe. My question is, should I worry about water getting into it while washing it or driving around in the rain with it in the back of my truck? I guess I could cover the whole end in a plastic bag or something, but is it necessary?

Theres a picture of my bike and the pipe.

Thanks guys

Ryan

Yes never let water get in the pipe it will destroy the packing - go to Home Depot and buy a rubber cork - in the Hardware section to plug that pipe up - Also that particular pipe is prone to blowing out the sides of the carbon fiber canister if the packing is not changed every 20-35hrs of riding..I have seen many if them destroyed - I do not believe WB makes them anymore in Carbon fiber - only alum. Your bike looks nice have fun.....

See what I was wondering is if the cap in the end of the pipe seals it out - it seems like it does, no exhaust comes out of it. Heres a pic of the end of the pipe - should I just use some sort of bag to cover the whole end of the pipe, so that it covers the slits where the exhaust comes out as well?

I see you have the spark arrester installed...water can leak between the plates between the pipe end and the canister but it is not as bad as running the pipe with out the spark arrester - this will give more power but more noise. I ran the same set up(except the Alum version) on my 02 WR450 w/o the spark arrester - it is a great pipe. When I washed the bike I would get a plastic bag to cover the end of the pipe - Dirt/mud will collect between the plates so you may want to disassemble every once in a while... :applause:

That is a very nice pipe. The tail piece on the end is just for looks. If the blanking plate is installed you can run without it, it's just extra weight. Looks like you've got the right amount of discs in it too. Just put a strip of tape aroung the discs when washing etc. :applause:
