Powercore4 SA DB readings are...

Recommended Posts

OK, I have a 2004 WR450F and I have installed a Powercore4 SA with the FMF quiet core insert. I had the sound tested and it was 94 DB. I posted this because there was some questions regarding the noise this made and the DB readings. I did supect it would be around 96 or 97! So this is much quieter than I though it was! ?

Hey Toy,

Did you test it without the quiet insert?

I'm thinking of buying the quiet insert for my powercore 4 but I'm really really curious to know what the numbers are without it.

Thanks!

Yes, this is with the quiet core insert. I have never tested it without, though, it was super loud. I'd guess in excess of 100 DB. I did run mine before I installed the quiet core insert. Way too loud for public lands.

Yeah, my PC4 is very loud too. It is not as loud as the yoshis I've heard or other race systems but anyway... too loud. It is louder than the stock YZ pipe by quite a notch.

As was said in previous posts, the power is great though.

I'll try the insert, and if I'm not happy, I,ll buy a yz stock pipe.

i tried the insert on my yz,it absolutely killed the bottom. when i used it on my wr it wasn't as noticeable ?

Just curious to know: was this WR YZ-timed?

I'm afraid the same will occur with my WR since it is yz-timed.

Dude, you're not really helping the sport with this attitude.

Every rider love the sound of his bike but many non-riders don't.

Bring that sound level down. The less people know you're there, the more freedom you have. ?

If you want people to look at you while you ride, ride slowly and naked :D ... at least it's not noisy. :D

Im mostly a desert rider, so i dont think i affect to many people. i asked for a price on the insert, because i have some trips coming up in the forest, it will come in handy there, i dont purposly ride around it circles first gear pinned to make every one hear me. i just love the way the thumper sounds with the powercore 4, it sounds like it has bawlz.

no stock cam timing,it'll probly act the same if its yz timed as there aren't a whole lot of other differences between the them after its yz timed ?

Toyota

Is the 94 db at idle or at some nominal rpm above idle? What is the standard procedure for doing the test?

Yes, they had a spec sheet, they asked me year and model, looked it up, then one guy held a tach to the engine case and he ran the throttle, other held the meter near the pipe. But he did use a special tool to locate the tester at what looked like a 45' angle and about 1.5 feet to the side. As the RPM hit the speed on the sheet, the guy signaled the other guy holding the meter to take the reading. I'd guess it was about 3500 rpm. To the other poster, the insert cost about $30 and I bought it from FMF. It take about 1 minute to install, so it can be removed as quickly if one needed some more power on a "closed race course/competition" or something like that. I have to admit, I was nervous. I figured it would be about 96 to 97. The PC4 and the quiet core insert was the single biggest power enhancement I did to my bike. This is from the stock muffler. ANd I never ran it without the insert, well, except out of curiosity in the garage. The power is nice, lots of good low end grunt. Besides, its the exact combo INDYWR runs, (PC4 with QC insert) so its good enough for me! Indy has saved me lots of time in R&D! I let him do all the research, then jump in when he has it nailed down and buy it. ?
