16T with a 50T Rear?

Recommended Posts

"I have no idea, but why do you want to do that? Do you run extremely high speeds or what."

I have plates on my 450 so I want a bit more top end. 50 MPH and she is reving quite high where a 16 tooth would add 15 MPH to that while 1st would still have plenty of torque. Still, if I have to mess with the chain at 16T I think I will return it and go with a 15T front sprocket. 50 is stock for the rear.

You guys are sure the chain won't wrap around 16/50 ?

I'm pretty sure a 16 won't fit.... ? I use a 15 from time to time and boy it's a tight fit, I don't think a 16 would fit... You best option might be a 15/48, if your bikes full uncorked with a nice exhaust you go over 100mph.

Dan ?

I run quite a bit of highway with a 15/48 using the stock chain. It gets a little buzzy over 65, but it is a dirt bike after all. I don't think you would want to go much higher than that, unless you're ONLY riding on pavement. I'm almost positive a 16 won't fit anyway- the 15 is REAL close.

That gearing sounds wayyy too high. I run 13/52, and I Don't need any higher gearing, although my bike will pull a 5th gear wheely. But I just trail ride, and rarely get out of 3rd gear. You should try the 15 tooth front before you try the 16.

Hey bnbt. 14 teeth is the stock front, right? I went to a 50t in the rear and but had to get a longer chain. Gives me a little more grunt in the steep stuff. Does going to a 13t in the front do the same thing as I did?
I think stock is 14/48 They told me going down one on the front is like going up 3 on the rear. So if that is correct, yes it would be pretty close to what you did. Idleing and real slow speeds thru the technicle stuff and pulling real steep hills when you cant get a good run at them is way way easier. I went out yesterday and purposely(sp) rode some stuff that I have had a hard time with in the past, boy oh boy what an awesome improvement. ? I rarely see 80mph so losing a little top end was no big deal to me. And no, I am a big slacker and didnt snap the pics this weekend. ? I will try to real soon though. :D
