I'm currently racing out of a 20' Campmaster trailer and its just too damn small for me and my mom and dad. We have been looking into the Fun Movers and the possibility of going that route. My question is if you have one, what are some things you like/dislike about it. Personally I cant see what would be wrong with it but if there are any problems let me know before we get one and find out the hard way :)

I don't have one but my friend does. That are really great. Don't have to trailer you bike but like the 28 foot or whatever it is, the area to hold the bike takes up a lot of room and make the front living space tiny. Like it is a 22 foot motor, and it will was too damn small. That what I thought

Go check out the 'Toyhauler' forum at RV.Net. You will find several interesting comments about the Funmover brand. My advice would be to look at every hauler you can find- kick the tyres, sit in the seat, crawl around underneath and generally soak up as much info as possible. Probably the most important thing to check is whether the owner would buy another one of the same brand. You have a wide range to choose from- everything from a small Class C to a 45' 3 axle truck chassis. I have a 40' Renegade, which in 4 years I've taken from Truckee to Prudhoe Bay to Baja to Nova Scotia- 85000+ miles with zero problem. It rides like a dream, drives great (700 miles a day on the interstate by myself) Plus the people at Renegade are super. I stopped in after 18 months to have a couple of very small items looked at and they put 2 guys on it for half a day at no charge. They even fixed a couple of normal wear and tear items in the garage.

A couple of things that I think are important:
1) I like FRP (fiberglass reinforced plywood) over aluminum siding. Sooner or later you will get up close and personal with tree limbs, and scuffs in the gelcoat are easier to deal with than gouges in the aluminum.
2) Watch the weight rating- many smaller haulers don't have much capacity after you fill the tanks, stock the cupboards, and sit in the seats. This is a big problem with the Class C based haulers.
3) Roofs are a weak point on almost all motorhomes- look for 1 piece roofs with well caulked penetrations.
4) Air suspension- soaks up all the bumps and makes the coach last much longer.
5) Bigger is better- especially with tyres. Most motorhome manufacturers spec as small a tyre as possible in order to maximize the coach. But this means that the tyre is running very close to it's max weight rating which significantly reduces tyre life, especially on gravel. Plus the larger diameter tyres tend to roll over the potholes easier.

We just got a 2005 fun mover 35C and it is a POS !!!
Nothing but problems for us. It has been back to the dealer once which they had it for TWO WEEKS and things came back still not fixed.
It is now back at the factory where they will hopefully fix ALL of the problems.
For $133,000.00 you would think things would be perfect but every time we used it things broke.

IF you have one have the floor track in the garage fastened down with "real" through bolts/nuts, NOT the stupid little 1 inch long sheet metal screws into the plywood floor.
We had the track pull up dumping a bike.
The shower drain leaks into the living area, the batteries for the generator died, the fridge doesn't work, the laminates are peeling from allot of the trim work, the slide out doesn't retract like it should, gee I could go on and on.

Bottom line, I would look elsewhere if you are interestd in a fun mover or get allot of opinions.

Anyone interested in a used fun mover?

ohiomotoxer - GOOD to know! We were looking at them too. Not the top model you have but the 31C I believe for about 75,000.00. I will keep this in mind when purchasing our RV.

just a comment to add here. I too have looked at the funmovers, not a racer but a rider with a family. So I need to take toys when I camp so I can sneak away. I went with the Class C RV with a trailer combo and it works great. I bought a Forest River Class C which is known as a value coach. But here is the funny part of RVs, all of them have quality issues, you pay for higher quality but that unit may have all the same issues as a cheap one. I have about 45k invested in my brand new 31 foot rv that I now can customize as I see fit. Shop around, check out rv.net and irv2.com forums. You will spend tons of money customizing your rv after you get just like you do your bikes. Everyone suggests a shake down run, basically camp somewhere close the first time and work out the kinks. My kinks were a broken awning clip, a broken adjuster on a barrel chair, and some carpet that was coming untacked--2 days with the dealer and I was good to go--just like in bikes if you don't service it yourself find a good dealer!

Compensation...you gotta be kidding. We basically had to threaten the Four Winds factory rep with a law suit to get them to take notice. We lost $200.00 in food for our crew last race, a $75,000.00 custom motorcycle came loose and did damage to the paint, we spent a total of 12 hours of our own time "fixing" things so we could just use the damn thing.
We couldn't shower at the races because of the leak, no air conditioner because the generator would not start.. compensation!!! yeah how do you put a price on that?? Basically we are screwed.
They really didn't want to hear our bitching and the local dealer was just the same.
We had it back to the dealer to "fix" the major items once (they had it for 2 weeks)
* Side door not closing all the way (wind noise at speed).
* Generator batteries dead. NOTE: we waited 4 hours when we picked it up for them to"change" said batteries, they were dead by the time we got home an hour away.
*Fridge stopped working.
*Generator will not start on house or truck batteries.
*Shower drain leaks into the living area.
* Many parts of laminate lifting from the cabinets.
*Chrome is peeling on entry grab rail.
* Slide out hangs up in out position and wires bind on in position.
* Garage tie down floor track pulled up causing a bike to fall over and chip the paint on a custom bike.
* Cabinet door in garage fell off due to poor latch mechanism.
*Slide out rocker switch broken.
*Outside water tank filler is not fully connected to the tank and leaks when filling.
I could go on!!!

Fixed items:
* Supplied keys did not lock belly storage locks.
* Fog lights did not work.
*Trim in garage was loose it is now fastened down.
*Wires under dash were loose, they secured with a zip ty.

The local dealer will "only" fix minor details in the summer as they are swamped ( hmmm maybe ALL RV's are POS too )

Finally, the factory came to get this thing to hopefully fix everything.
Gee, that will be 500 or so more added miles to the ODO.

It blows me away that these defects could actually get by quality control at the factory let alone the "supposed" pre delivery inspection from our dealer.

We were looking at a Renegade of the same size but it was $30k more AND this thing was basically a garage on a truck chassis, air ride, 450 Mercedes Engine etc. We GLADLY now would spend the difference knowing the faults of this machine.

I have gathered information from others with basically the same defects from other forums on the net. Especially the batteries, slide out and track pulling up.

YES , we did read about some of these problems before purchasing one but we did get a thumbs up from a friend who must have got a cream puff and has not had any "major" problems with his, soooo.

Bottom line: If they have it 2 weeks or more we can submit it to a lawyer under Ohio's lemon law. (we already had it in for repairs which they had it for 2 weeks)

We'll keep you posted.

Renegade is the way to go if you can afford it. When I retire in 4 years I'll go that way and add a toybox to the rear for the bikes and kids (grandkids maybe by then). They now have trailers where the living spaces are seperated from the work/storage spaces by a wall and door. Seen them both at the races and like them both. Friends with the Funmovers always complain about common motorhome problems. That and small living quarters. But then after all, a motorhome is really just another word for " Money Drainer".

Too small? Try a Suburban and 12' trailer and a tent! I have been looking at my options too as far as bigger goes. I think the really practical way to go is NOT motorhome based. Pick-up truck and fifth wheel or bumber pull. I am leaning for bumper pull rather than fifth wheel. Here's why.

Motorhome--you drag a car with you or take apart camp and drive the RV when you want to got to dinner or fetch parts, or go sight seeing. Also, you have a lot of room taken up by a driver console and engine area.

Fifth wheel--you can't have a cap on the back of the truck, but you can leave the trailer and run for parts etc. Trailer is cheaper.

Bumperpull--you can have a cap on the back of the truck (and people can sleep in there too). You can lock stuff in it. You can take side trips away from the camp. You don't have a hitch in the middle of the floor (although some fiftwheel hitches are almost flush mounted).

Cost--you don't have so much money tied up in a camper you can't run errands with. Isurance is way cheaper.

Truck--you can haul just a bike or two locally for an open ride. You can use it to haul wood and stuff.

If your camper should burn, or get rear ended, you can still drive home (with hopefully the bikes in the back of your truck!).

They also charge way too much for option in a motorhome versus trailer. Trailers are also easier to configure, or re-configure yourself.

Good point Average Joe.

ohiomotoxer....keep us posted for sure. We were sitting there reading ALL of the problems with the Fun Mover and was floored that the company did not step up and fix things ASAP with apologies. I'm sorry for the BS but I am glad you shared this. I would consider doing the same with other sites. You never know who might be reading posts. The right person from Fun Mover may be one of them and help change Customer Service issues and/or compensate you for all the BS.

Good Luck!

I fully understand your point Rudy, if I didn't have a wife who's idea of roughing it is the Holiday Inn, I would have a pickup truck and trailer and sleep either in a tent or the back of the truck.

I also will agree that RV, like MX or GNCC stands for $$$ to me, then again we all didn't get into this hobby being frugal.

No word from the Four Winds factory.
We hope it will be there for at least two weeks, that way it will fit in under Ohio's lemon law as it has laready been back at the dealer for two weeks and none of the things they fixed stayed fixed.

While I was initially looking at a "hauler" I wanted a Renegade (we are a company not individuals) because I had personal experience with them (Renegades are superior to anything else out there) but the powers to be here didn't want to spend the extra coin (about 30K) My pitch was that the Renegade could haul a biiiiig trailer, the Renegade has a tag frame hitch that can pull a 40 foot stacker car trailer. The Renegade was full air ride, the interior was much nicer, the chassis was a Freightliner Columbia over the road unit with the far superior Allison truck auto trans which is better than the Meritor trans which is in most.
It also had a Mercedes 450hp engine.

I now see the Fun Movers for sale with low miles on them ( I saw that when we were looking and the owners said " Oh they are great, no problems" YEAH RIGHT !!!)

I don't care if a dealer is selling a Yugo hauler or a 160,000.00 Renegade it should be perfect and last a loooong time which I am finding out that the RV industry is a scam.
They ALL break down and good luck getting them fixed when you need to.

If there are 3 of you sleeping in it I would probably go with the 31. It has the bunk and the couch, which folds out to sleep on. The 27 is great also. The biggest difference between the 27 and 31 is the 27 does not have the couch/bed. You can get some really good deals on used 27's, around $35k. Also, the 27 is available with the fold out ramp which I feel is the best, most reliable and safest, for MX. The 31 has bumper ramps, which are scary if you have kids like I do. I have had both the 31's and 35. We had problems with our 35 also, but nothing like the guys with the 05. The 35 was nice because you additional external storage where you could stow your stands and other dirty gear leaving more room and less clutter in the garage. The 27/31 also drive much nicer and faster than the 35.

Let me know if you have any more questions,

Just an update on our Not so Funmover:
The factory rep calls us today and says things are STILL NOT fixed !!!!!
He was in the coach looking at items and we were going over the broken or defective list and basically little has been done since them picking it up from us and taking it to the factory repair facility. THAT was 17 days ago.
It would seem that they can't read a list we provided them of the defective or broken items.

If anyone is looking at anything Funmover DON"T DO IT!!!!
