I just changed my oil but did not change the o-ring. The dealer was out of the part. Now the thing leaks. They will not have a new o-ring in for several days and I have a few rides scheduled before then.
Is there anything that I can apply to the outside joint where it is leaking as a temporary fix. I have been looking at Yamalube Yamabond http://www.rockymoun...tv?pid=00035403
Do you guys think that this would be a good temp fix? The only worry I have is that some of this stuff could get into the oil and filter and cause problems. Has anyone tried anthing like this?
I know installing a new o-ring is the best solution but I need a temp fix.

Thanks in advance,

Would it be possible to put a bead of silicone sealant on the outside of the seal.

Just an idea.

Try putting a little vasiline on the oring and then replace it. I used to work on pools and this is how we did every oring seal. Worked good.

silicone, depending on the material the O-ring is made of, can do some pretty bad stuff to it.

for work we use a product called "KoprKote" it has copper and some other stuff in there, and it seals O-rings like you wouldn't believe. -but- I would never put that stuff anywhere near my engine.

I second TimBRP's suggestion of vasolene for this purpose.

Yamabond and Hondabond are the same products and made by 3bond, who also sells this same product under their 3bond name. Getting a little of this in the oil or filter won't hurt a thing unless you get crazy with it. Try your Honda or Yamaha dealer to see if they carry this or any local bike shop.
