XR600R - suspension torque settings

Hi All,

The other day I cleaned and greased the rear suspension bearings on my XR600R (2002 model). I have both Clymer and Haines manuals, and noticed a discrepancy in the torque settings for the shock-link to frame pivot bolt. Clymer says 50ftlb, whereas Haines says 30ftlb. Does anyone know which is correct? The manuals often disagree, but usually not by this much.

Its a 10mm bolt.

Re. 02 600r, well, I'm not sure either. I think my bike was made for the Australian market and would have been one of the last 600Rs made, so I thought this was 02. It sat in a crate in Germany for a couple of years. I bought it new in the Spring of 04, crated. It has dual sport wiring, which is what made me think it was an Aussie one.

Standard torque for a 10mm (thread diameter) is 29 lbs-ft.

29 Ftlb or slightly higher would be about right for a 10mm flange bolt with a head mark of around 7 I think. However, the bolt is a Honda OEM one with no head marks / property class. Currently I have it tightened up to 30 Ftlb, but have feeling it should be higher.

If anyone has access to the Honda settings please post.

I could only count three crests without taking the bolt back out, but it does look like fine pitch (1mm), so it could be that the Clymer setting of 50 ftlb is appropriate. Again, if anyone has the definitive Honda torque setting please post.
