Let me fill you guys in on the situation. A got a 1991 Ford F150, for free. I was happy to take it because it is a 4x4, a 5 speed, and has 302 under the hood. There are problems with the truck of course, the valve covers leak, as does the oil pan. The water pump died, the truck got hot and toasted the plug wires. The body is straight, besides one big dent on the side of the bed. I am getting ready to pull off the intake, the valve covers and the oil pan to replace the gaskets. So my dad pressure washed the engine compartment for me while I was at work. When I got home it started just fine and was misfiring. I pushed on the plug wires and is started and ran right. Today I go to start it and it starts like normal then dies. Started It again and it ran a bit and died. So i pop the hood pull the plug wires and the dizzy cap and dried them all out. That fixed the missfiring problem. Now I get a check engine light when it is idling, touch the throttle and it goes away for about 5 seconds then it comes back. I drove it around the neighborhood and it died twice then it cleared up and ran fine. The light is throttle sensitive, when going down hill if i get off the gas it comes on it I step back on it the light goes away. A little guidence would be great. Sorry about the long post.

Sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere.  Check all the little vacuum hoses, maybe one popped off.  It happened to a friend of mine and his Ford wouldn't shift (automatic)
