can anyone power wheelie their 250 in second gear? i've read alot of posts about doin wheelies, so i've been workin on it, but first gear is so low you gotta shift really soon. so far it doesnt seem to have the power to do in second, but can anybody here do it? my klx400 will do it real easy, but the problem is the deathwings definately wont grib enough in the dirt to pull the tire up, and they even spin too much on pavement leaving blackmarks all over the driveway and burnin up the tire!

I can't say I've mounted a KLR before  but I'm sure you can get the beast to come up in 2nd with a little clutch play and some pulling finesse! I can get my son's stock klx110 up in 3rd and it doesn't even have a clutch
Keep trying!

KLR250.......Power..........Wheelie........ Thats a strange combo of words.
I've never tried it, but I'm sure its possible, although I would not call it a "power" wheelie........more an "armstrong" wheelie.

lol. Good call jenz.
I think it would take some pretty good clutch/sprocket abuse to get my KL250's
doing "power-wheelies" on flat ground. And they are geared a bit lower than the
KLR's, and not as top heavy, being aircooled.
Out on the trails however, it is all timing and throttle control. Just a little bump
or log will enable wheelies in the 1st 3-4 gears if you time it right.
Drop a tooth on the front sprocket will help with that.

I'm actually dropping a tooth on mine. Maybe I'll test out this little thing you all call wheelies...

I assume by power wheelie you mean just crank the throttle and the front end comes up. I don't think that and KLR250 work together. So I tried it on the way to work today. Pavement. I weigh about 195 with helmet, leather and backpack on. I could not get a wheelie on level pavement in any gear without clutch work and working the shock. First gear it took about 3500rpm and dropping the clutch for the front end to come up much at a dead stop. Second gear from a stop I chickened out at 5000rpm, but it wouldn't pull up at that, just sort of sputtered and then accelerated.
Oh, mine is stock except for a 125 main jet and an opened up air box.

sorry i havent wrote back yet. by "powerwheelie" i meant twisting the throttle, whether you bounce the shocks, pull up on the bar, or not. just without any clutch play. i know it wont just come up with a twist of the throttle. it wont even hardly do that in first! lol yea and i agree with jenz...power and klr dont go together! i was just wondering if anybody could actually do it. guess i found my answer lol. but about droppin a tooth...i havent ridden many dirtbikes, but the klr by far has the lowest gearing of any bike i've ridden. i mean 6th is pretty tall and there is a nice spread between 1st and 6th, but first seems so low. just curious, why would you drop it even lower?

The main reason I dropped a tooth on one of my 250's, is so I can go up
very steep trails/hills in 2nd instead of first.
I wasnt having any problems really doing them in first, but can hit them faster in
2nd with the gearing change, and still can drop down a gear if needed.
Some of the hills, the stock 2nd gear was a bit too fast, and just chugging up
in first aint no fun.
The extra torque comes in handy on the singletrack stuff also.

Because it is actually kinda tall for offroading. I do think it is way low for onroad, but it really helps pull you up the hills offroad when you drop it down a tooth.
