Waxing plastics

A buddy of mine just bought new plastic in black for his bike.

He put a coat of wax on it right away and it hazed it up a little.

I guess he thought it would protect the shine but it didn't work out that way.

Is this permanent or will it shine back up after the wax wears away? Will Pro-Prep by Silkolene or Plexus do anything to bring back the shine?

He doesn't post on TT so I wanted to try to help him out.

He can wipe it with paint thinners then polish it with pledge (furniture polish) then buff it should be OK then.
