XR650L 05'

anti bling motorcycling

I would not waste my time with the bling factor on the "L" either due to the fact it'll still look "L"ame.....and comes in "L"ast.......... ?

I like my R, and really the L's have there place.....

Hey Duh Dude, it's anti-bling motorcycling. ie. no bling involved here.

By the way, B-Dub, I think XR650L Dave wants to take you on!! Obviously he doesn't know that you have a hook for a left hand after that nasty accident. Could cause some serious damage with that thing!! ?

We ride 5 minutes from the beach, very nice weather here. We WILL make a Starbucker outta ya !!!

You should see the billet "Mocha Grande" holder I just installed, since the L model is really slow... I dont spill a drop.

Seriously dude, truck the bike down here and we can have some fun shredding along the border in the hills. We only hit Starbucks because we drop into civ to gas up mid ride and theres one next to the station...and it was to break your balls. Water or Powerade work much better.

If your nice we might even catch a donkey show ?

JD, so is it true that there are more DRZ riders at SB than XRL guys??? For the east coast I can definitely say that no XRL here is going to Starbucks :D But thats only because I'm the only one here, if I would then all XRL rider would be there :D

I found one DRZ this weekend with us, the guy who cracked his foot had his replacement driver (his girlfriend) ride his bike while he was cooking the burgers and steaks ? wasn't that nice ?

Awesome fathers day pic and ride.....I had to work some OT so no ride this weekend, but took my son to work to hang out.

I am officially going to boycott Starbucks...Mac D's new coffee is pretty good...hmmmmm

LOL

I really have to thank my buddies every weekend for taking turns watching my son. Otherwise I would be fouling plugs on my 2smoker in a row and not really get to ride.... ?

XR Det...where are you guys riding at? I lived there in the mid 90's and used to ride out on a farm in Surry. I ended up selling my KDX200 because there was no place close to ride. Up here in CT there are trails all over the place. I can ride my XRL 20 minutes from my house to some awesome trails.

Great way to spend fathers day. I have a 10 year old boy who is dying for a bike. We are about to move down to MS this fall. I am hoping there will be places to take him riding down there. The wife knows it is coming soon. I will just go pick one up and surprise her (and him) . It is always easier to be for forgivness then ask for permission.

Hey black2kmax, the pictures this weekend were from Surry. Actually Slade's Park. They just re-opened in Aprill this year after they were closed for 2 years because of a fatal accident with a kid. At least that was what I was told. You are right, there are not many official places to ride here. So far Surry and a MX track in Moyock NC are the only ones close to me. Thats why I got the CR250 and leave my XRL at home on the weekends.

Hehehe, as far as sons bike I did the same. I found that PW80 in the trading post here for $250 and just had to get it. My wife was fine with it even without asking her ;-) She is now getting worried after seeing him riding faster and faster with it ;-))

I started already looking for next year, thought I would get one of those 65cc 2smokers if I find a decent deal. Nice light one, since he is not very strong. That PW is killing him when he drops it to pick it up.

Slades. Now I remember. The old man who used to own it died and left it to his son. I remember his son converting a bunch of the trails and tracks into farmland. He also jacked the prices. It used to be if you were part of the local motorcycle club you dues were paid annually by the club. If I remember he changed it to $10 per day for everyone.

The first time I rode there was in a hare scramble on New Years day...The Hangover 100. In fact it was the first time I had rode my KDX200 and the first time on a dirt bike in a decade. I ended up finishing second in my class. Not too bad for an old out of shape guy. I think the XR would be a handful on those trails. Some are pretty tight if I remember right.

I guess they raised the price again. Its now $15 per bike not matter if kid or adult and $5 for anyone else who has no bike with them. Someone from Surry who knows the Slade family told me that they where cutting the woods the past 2 years and you can tell. Most of the trails are cut fresh as it looks but still pretty tight. Also quiet sandy in some sections.

Here you can see some pictures, a rare day when I took the camera on the trail. It has two pages... I went that day with a guy I met here on TT and my buddy.

http://photobucket.com/albums/y232/det_va/slades-2005-05-21/

My riding buddies haven't gotten their bikes dualsported yet so we are stuck with this place for now. But its fun with the CR - thats for sure. The XR has to sit at home, wouldn't be the right bike on those tight trails. The other option is the Currituck Motocross in Moyock but that for I got the CR initially...

The only thing that I really don't like about Slades in Surry its that all the idiots seem to go there, no matter if 4wheeler or dirtbike you can find them there... I am sorry but stupidity seems to rule there for 50% of the riders. When we go on Saturdays there are more people without the right gear than those with it. The funniest guy I've seen there was someone with a construction helmet tied with a T-shirt to his head, boots seem to be luxury and those 4wheelers have no respect of a little kid riding, they pass within a foot space... so I normally ride behind my son waving left and right to cover his butt.

Like last weekend, those guys next to us on the parking lot had the nicest language, using in every sentence the "F" word and that with my 8 year old son next to them. On top one of those idiots lost his wallet on the trail and was cussing even more when he got it back empty - LOL

Oh well, we have fun riding anyway. I've met some nice guys there too who you can tell do it with more brain...

THIS GUY actually rode through the U.S on a 650L using that trail system. ?

Look, it all comes down to this, the XR650L is a Dual Sport bike that's the best on the market right now, Factoy or Non Factory, nothing can compete with it, the DRZ lacks the cubic inches, bottom torque, and top end, the XR "R" means you'll be carrying oil in your backpack and consuming twice the fuel as the "L", and the KTM RFS's require valve adjustments and oil changes every 15hrs, with top end tear downs every 60hrs, the LC4 (SXC) is no longer offered and like all Euro bikes, lacks dealer support (but it's a sweet bike), and other Factory Dual Sports just suck ass. :D

XR650L is still king, and flaunting that your Baja Racer is better than a Factory Dual Sport, because it's liquid cooled or has more power, automatically qualifies you as a moron :D, because they're two different classes, Baja Racer and Factory Dual Sport. Ill be getting mine soon. ?

Dude........for one the DRZ is the best Factory Dualsport by far.....it's good that you like the XR650L....it is a great bike but not the best. Yes the DRZ lacks a LITTLE on the bottom to the XRL but that's it....look at the horsepower numbers....the DRZ has more :D so how can you say it lacks in the top end compared to the XR?? :D And the midrange hit the DRZ offers is even more than the XR. I was set to get a brand new leftover 03 XR650L, test rode it, then test rode the 04 DRZ400S....the XR has good low end torque but after that it's totally gutless for a 650. I bought the DRZ and have never looked back.....and I'm not knocking the XR either, as I said it is a great bike.... :D

Yeah, the whole thing really has been beat to death. Malachi, shouldn't you be arguing in the Suzuki threads about which Suzuki dealer has the best mechanics for fixing broken down DRZ's?

When B-Dub said he was going, he REALLY WAS going! Thought I'd see him on this thread again. I bet he peeks in once-in-awhile. ?
