So, who still rides an XR600?

Recommended Posts

The 600R has the place in history of the most reliable bike on the planet, .............Ill keep mine, both of them, like I said, until someone (Honda) comes out with a better bike...Honda, are you listening? All XR600R riders want you to make us the NexGen XR6R!!! no mo CRF for playbikes!...............Speaking of reliability, my freind has a 91 XR600R, it has been plated since 91 and has been ridden almost every day, he has only done a new cam chain, thats it after about 60K miles....thats amazing for an off road single cylender thumper with this kind of power.

Hence my internal struggle of whether sell em both (600 and 450) and buy a 650R, or just keep the 600R...I worked my peetootie off to get it rewired, and un-jerry rigged, to the sweet state it is in now. Hate to sell. My wife would love that. "HOW COME YOU CANT JUST BUY A BRAND NEW BIKE WITH A WARRANTY, LIKE MY CAR HAS?" Then I say, What fun is that? And I really now my bike now....

Is yours plated? If so you may be a little better off with a 650, they have more top end stock and even when you slightly hop up a XRE600R they are only AS fast as a uncorked 650. If speed is an issue, and not bottom snap, get the 650, if you ride the woods, tight trails or stuff like that i say keep the 600, it is flickeyr and quicker handling, speers a little better in my opinion, and has better bottom snap for that kind of riding.

Not sure they heard the last 1,000 posts here either? The Honda marketing types have nothing but CRF on the brain right now so it's a given that the next generation big bore bike will be called one. Whether it's a legitimate XR650R replacement or a fragile mx-based "racing fourstroke" design is the real question. I'll keep my 650R for now but it's at the same point my old XR600 was in the late 90's....a great design getting a little "long in the tooth" and ready for replacement as a performance oriented bike...but perhaps with a long future as a dualsport.

I just bought a 97 XR600 myself and I freaking love it. It is my first bike and I am still getting used to it. That is a way good deal. I thought I stole my at 1,400$ but it did come with a pipe, rear rack, moose bag, 5( or around that) gallon desert tank, extra guards on the bottom and the all important hand guards( because I lay it down just about every time I ride). O and last but not least a Baja design light kit, to make it street legal.

Are you for real?

The XR6 DOMINATED in tight Victorian offroad country for 10-15 years.

Simply put - the XR650R has been a rather large disaster for Honda Australia. How are they selling? Nowhere near the 600R

(when as an Australian will you recongnise it is a US spec model with only one thing in mind - wide open desert???)

The XR600 runs rings around the 650 in the high country. It's lighter, infinitely better at turning and flat out handles better when you ride our tighter trails. Especially when you add a 630 kit to it.

It's simply horsechit to say for Victoria the 650R is better - it's not and the facts are the XR600 ruled offroad for years down here.

If you're in a state where the country is wide open - different kettle of fish - the 650R will be an imporvement but it is NOWHERE near as versatile as the 600R was. EVER.

The 600R is an icnonic bike that sold 1000s in Australia. The 650R was a stopgap. The 650R has a very very limited life in Australia.

XR600R - 271.2 lbs dry weight

XR650R - 277 lbs dry weight

? So where is the major weight savings that make a 600 so much more flickable?

hey mate I have the same - XR628 with HRC engine and a CRF450R.

The XR is an awesome bike - now with electric start!!!

I tell you though the 450R shows how far technology has come - it is freakin powerhouse!!!

who would have thought a 450r could hose a 600?? I would never have though so but my 450R hoses the 600.

My 600 is where its at though for me - I've put estart on it, 450R forks and FCRMX carby, Ims tank, and a race motor with open exhaust and setrab oil cooler.

I think RMHRC630 has an issue with the 650R. I've ridden a CRF450 and a 650R and I seriously doubt that a 450 will take a 650 down. You know the old saying... There is no replacement for displacement... ?

My XRR is plated, has lights, all the stops. I committed blasphemy today. I went to my local mom and pop bike parts dude and picked up my newly laced wheels for my 450R. Told him I was gonna sell the 450R and POSSIBLY the 600R. He laughed and told me he was a Husaberg dealer. Think thats what it is...anywho, yellow and blue BAD ASS looking thumper. 650E. The one he had was a supermoto, thought they do make MX/dual sport bikes. The titles do not say anything about RACING ONLY, and they are tricked out!!!!!! All for a lump sum or around $8000. You fellas ever heard of these things? I doubt I'll get one, I just wonder why a dude would pick this bike as his only selling machine. It did look tough as hell though...not as tough as my 600R per say, but.........

I'm gonna hafta try one of the 650Rs. My 450R is worked over slightly. It is terrifying to some people. I have never seen a bike that nimble, and that much power. Justmy opinion. I think it would be a good race.

A 450 on a track is a handful. Now for desert riding I think it is a bit underpowered and unreliable. Just depends on what type of riding you do. I live in So-Cal and go to Baja all the time so that's why a 650R works so well for me. + I'm 6'7 240 so I need some serious power to keep me happy.. ?

issue?

I own a an XR628 and a CRF450R. No where did I mention 650R.

Both are great.

The CRF is very ver close in power if not higher.

I was not talkng about 650R.

streetdoc I bought my 96 XR600 from a guy who just had XR's only do a complete rebuild on the engine a gave it a 630cc kit and a ful head porting and Kibblewhite SS valve and Hotcams stage 1 cam. This bike is the fastest 600 i've ever owned. I love this bike. I've owned it for about 2 years now and have not had any issues with the engine what so ever. just replaceing rear ties is all.....LOL

i have a 87 600r that i bought about 15 years ago.bike was kind of beat and had a 3rd gear problem but i rode it for 5 years with bad 3rd gear.it finally locked in 5th on blackrock dry lake but it least it made it back to the truck.i split the cases and got a used trans assembly from a bike wrecker in fresno.after trans about 7 years ago bike is still going strong and will be headed to baja to pre-run the san felipe 250.white bros used to make a link to lower the bike -i have 1 .it has a thick aftermarkit skid plat on it.i weigh about 180-its kind of heavy for a trail bike put with proper technique you can crush anything.

I bought one 2 weeks ago and love it. First ever off road bike but haven't took it offroad yet! Got to get boots, pants and armour first.

Just won exhaust manifold on ebay, so I'll get that fitted when it arrives & got goodridge brake hoses and a clutch perch with hotstart for a CRF to fit also.

Still waiting for jets for the carb, runs better when choke is on, so I just adjusted the tick over:bonk:

Here it is;

I bought one last fall as my first dirt bike, too. Serious fuuuuunnn! Mine's a 95 xr600r. It's basic and heavy, but it goes up some serious stuff here in Mt Whitney country. It has almost too much power, even at the 6 ft, 200 clydesdale division. I'd like it to be quieter, so I'll try repacking the muff soon. Anyone tried that?
