I have a problem (electric) with my d/s kit

Recommended Posts

I have the baja design kit. I had removed it from the bike (not entirely) to do some maintenance during the winter. I had re-installed it and had two problems. I just re-installed it with the manual to make sure everything is plugged OK but it did not get rid of the problems.

Problems are:

First problem: can't stop it: either gray button or light switch won't kill then engine.

here is the kind of switch I have on the bike :

The gray button never worked... when I bought the bike used, this button was inoperative. I don't know if the light trick is standard but when I bought the bike, ithe baja kit was installed so that the light switch needs to be on in order to get the bike started. Since I have the bike, I shut it down by switching the lights off (it worked good till last fall).

Second problem: flashers don't work, neither at the back or the front. Not only they don't blink, they don't even light up.

I'm sure every wires are plugged OK. The bike fires very very easily and revs very smoothly. Front light works as it should. Rear light including brake switch work fine.

Can the handle bar switch be down?

The last time I messed with this kit, I had no response at the tail light when pushing on the rear brakes. After changing the light and verifying all connections, it turned out that the switch ( the one that mounts on the rear brake cylinder) was dead. Now I think the switch on the handle bar is responsible for those problems.

What do you think?

Thanks for your input.

my baja designs kit just failed me last weekend. the bike runs good 01 wr426. but all my power to lights and horn or out. im thinking its a simple fix, its just been in the garage and i havent messed with it yet so i'll let u know what i find. also i had problemes when i installed it and found the baja guys very helpful. i fixed it after 1 email and 1 phonecall to them. And they got back to me right away. so i would ask them.

Well, you said it all when you said it was a Baja Designs product. :naughty:

They are notorious for bad electrical design on their dual sport kits. :naughty: Good luck with figuring out the problem. :D

C'mon Indy, I know you like Tricks kit more and that the designer of this kit is somebody you know but I would have thought you'd come up with somethig more useful :D

OK, just figured out that the wires from the switch to the little coil that mounts on the front were not plugged OK. So this should solve the problem of the flashers :naughty:

I'll try to figure out what the kill switch problem is.

Later,
