05 - YZ front plate on WR?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2005 WR450F.

My objective is to remove the headlight and tail light assemblies to save them for the future when I need them (i.e. abuse the cheaper non-lighted plastic).

I picked up the UFO rear fender from the YZ and it bolted right on. Good to go. I also need to replace the front head light with a YZ number plate.

The part the dealer gave me labeled "YZ" (UFO as well) doesn't fit.

Do I just have the wrong front number plate or is there a special mounting bracket I'm going to need to put it on?

The headlight assembly is attached with 3 screws - one on each side at the top and one at the bottom in the center. Does anyone know if there is a plate available that bolts on using these stock points? The one I got is not even close.

Secondary question: I'd like to keep my horn (its amazing how when you beep-beep at someone on the trail they get out of your way :naughty: ). It appears disconnecting the headlight assembly has cut power to the horn. Did I just disconnect too much by chance? Or.. can someone give me a wire color to splice into to put power straight to the horn without going through the headlight?

Thanks in advance. I'm new here (bought the 450 five days ago and had a blast on it last Saturday) and have already learned a bunch by reading this board.

cheers,

Edward

Can't wait until Saturday! :naughty: Forecast 70 & Sunny.

I dont know about the 05, but on the 04 I removed that lower braket that the bottom screw threads into and then the two prongs on the bottom of the YZ plate with fit in the empty holes where you removed the bracket. Then I just use a cable tie to keep the top nice and tight. I also moved the brake line to the outside like the YZ's to help the fit alittle. Good luck. :naughty:

I have designed and make a braket so you can use your yz number plate on your wr450. It is a quick disconnect and you can switch it out and back in a matter of 30 seconds with out tools leaving your stock brackets in place. It also makes it so you can leave your odometer on the bike as well.

I also came up with some brackets to be able to use a YZ number plate, but I would like to look at what you did. Do you have any pictures? I got rid of the stock odo and now using the Trail Tech. I also relocated the ignition switch by turning it sideways and mounting it down in front of the stearing stem.

Get a YZ top triple clamp ,forget the light,"Horn"how stuped is that its a dirt bike. After you shed all the crap they put on that bike and ride it you wont want all that crap. After doing the yz mod on my 04 I dont even want to put hand gards back on, the bike throws around so much better I know I'll have to put some hand protection back on but dont want to.

Horn, show'em your front wheel if they dont let you pass then they are fare game make sure you roost them hard when you pass next time they will pull over.
