Best performance part for '01 YZ426

Recommended Posts

The only performance parts that I have now are: Full Titanium FMF Exhaust system, and UNI filter.... I am thinking about a PowerNow, or aftermarket ignition.... What in ya'lls opinion would be some good aftermarket goodies?? I've had this bike since it was new and it is well taken care of too.....

What will make faster on the track?

Suspension.

I agree,

but if you talking about just the engine get a P-38 or boysen accelerator pump cover helps with bottom end sputter. I've also read a lot of good things about the 450 decomp cam not only does it seen to make more power but if you crash in a race it'll let you get restarted a bit faster. Id do the accelerator cover for a quick upgrade or the cam for a day off project...... :naughty: I'd also look into a fuel mixture screw and a jetting kit for some fine tune'n

My opinion on the subject is suspension. A good rider on a slow bike makes that bike looks like it has works components on it and if the bike is fast that same rider looks like a freakin maverick; however, if the suspension is not set up right even the best bikes and riders are out of whack. Once your suspension is dialed, more power can be put to the ground, lap times will improve, the bike can take advantage of engine performance upgrades and seat time will get better. I have RG3 all the way around on mine. 98 yz400f, RG3 susp., Pro Circuit T4 full system, Wiseco Big bore 420 kit, LA sleeve massage head, Ti valves, Hinson clutch basket, Bar mounted hotstart, Renthal twin walls, GPR steering stabilizer, Dunlop 756 r/r, ONE Industries graphics and a fun safe attitude.....good luck.

I've read this in MXA and have tried this mod myself. Cut the backfire screen out of your filter cage. Its kind of a pain because the screen is moulded into the plastic so you'll spend awhile pulling little pieces of screen out with needlenose pliers. The end result should be a little more response off the bottom and a little easier starting.

There was a good thread a while back on whether or not that had any real effect on power delivery or not. Ask grayracer about it, he's the guru when it comes to stuff like that. PS, next time don't cut the wire out, buy a stock YZ 250 (pinger)cage- it's the same without the screen.

ok guys...he has already had his suspension done....

Motor - 450 exhaust cam - You will get a new bike for about $120.

Cowboy is correct ....buy a stock YZ250 cage. I cut the screen out on my 426 and everytime I cleaned the filter I got stabbed my the fine pieces of mesh still glued to the frame. As far as whether that improved the performance...who knows...fast is fast. :naughty::naughty:

After reading the big debate a while back about removing the backfire screen, I'm not sure it gives any improvement or not. Any improvement you feel might just be power of suggestion. I may pick up a YZ 250 pinger cage someday just to see for myself, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Twisting the right grip a little further will usually give me all the power I need.
