Oil Change, Have I waited too long?

Recommended Posts

Oil changes have nothing to do with dust. Oil is contaminated by the byproducts of combustion and wearing of internal components. I wouldn't say your engine is knackered, but i would change it now.

Dust will mostly effect your air filter change interval.

WHOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D:D?:D:D??:D:naughty::naughty: Modern 4 strokes hold just a little over a quart of oil, that single quart of oil lubes your clutch and your entire engine.

I change my oil every ride, some think that may be a little to much as most change it every other ride but to wait go 400 miles without an oil change is no good bro, you seriously need to change your habits and start changing that oil on a regular basis.

I am sure that your engine isn't ruined but bikes do use a little oil from time to time I sure hope you have been checkin the oil level

Skip work and get in there and service that $6,000 machine.

Twice a season !!!!! your no better than he is unless you don't ride but 3 or 4 times a year, I put an average of 1200 miles a season on my bike that is equal to about 15 oil changes, 7 new oil filters and 1 new air filter.

Damn you guys are crackin me up! LOL

EVERY RIDE??? :naughty:

Oh I see, .....you ride a KTM. :D JK

I change mine about every 4th or 5th ride.

That works out to be around every 200 miles or so.

I have put on over 800 miles in the last 7 months. :naughty:

I change mine after every race or after a really long ride but depending on conditions 400 miles isn't too excessive. I rode 243 miles yesterday and at that rate I would have had to stop 3 times to change the oil. Oil is cheap though and this morning I gave the old girl a fresh dose of Mobil 1 Red Cap. :naughty:

Depends a lot on the use you make of the bike. I can go through 600 miles of pavement before changing the oil. On the other end, after a good offroad day or two days ride, I replace the oil. I've been through rides of 180 miles with this bike... and I have one of 300 miles planned this year... and no, I won't stop to change the oil... but as soon as I get back: oil service.

Just use common sense... this is a high performance race bike... treating it with overcareness can't hurt :naughty:

And by the way, can you guys stop saying oil is cheap. I don't know what you buy but here a good riding season costs hundreds in oil.

It's worth it, but it ain't cheap.

I bought all the leftover Mobil 1 Red Cap at a nearby Kmart for $2.50/Qt.

$90 bought me 36 qts. and that ought last me for a while. Seems cheap enough to me. Go price a new engine.

GEEZ! Going that long w/o an oil change probably wasn't the best idea. I change mine after every race and also after every few trail rides. You don't have to change the filter every time, probably every other. It's cheap insurance!

oil is the blood of modern 4storkes!!!!!!!!!!!

change it all the time and use good synthetic.

i change mine about every 2 weeks, 5 rides, 400-500km.

here is the secret, find any local motorcycle shop that uses the bulk 208L Motul synthetic {or other} oil in there service department. show up with a box of donuts and a few empty 4L jugs :naughty::naughty: the retail price of the bulk is dam good :D:D .
