Guts racing seat arrived about ten minutes ago (damn that was quick 1 day!) but now the problem I see is actually stapling it down to that hard ass plastic seat backing.

How did you guys staple it down? what kind of stapler do you own, I own a electric one and it only sank staples about half way thru the seat.

I use an air stapler that we have here at work. Much more powerfull than the handheld ones.

I use an upholstery air stapler for most of the seats I've done, but I've also used a cheaper $19.95 Harbor Freight air stapler as well. My upholstery stapler has a longer thinner nose that nicely reaches into small areas and it shoots 3/8" 22 gauge crown staples from 1/4" to 5/8" in long.

I usually install my seat covers over a modified saw horse. I also carefully use a heat gun to warm up the cover and stretch it out just a bit when needed. For the Guts covers, after I put the front pocket over the nose of the seat, I'll stretch it back and carefully warm the top & sides with the heat gun. Heat guns can easily melt your cover, so be very careful if you plan to use one. I stretch the cover back far enough so the Guts logo is sitting in the middle of the small rear flat angle which is on their tall foams. Actually, I have it sitting just slightly down from the middle by ~1/32" and then put a half dozen or so staples on the underneath backside to tack it down in back while holding it taught. Once the staples are in, the cover will relax just a bit and the logo will be perfectly centered. Then I'll pull down the sides from the middle with an emphasis on trying to pull any wrinkles out from the front section by pulling down and back while using a little heat to help things stretch a bit more and then I'll tack down the middle sides.

Then I'll work from the middle to the front of the seat by warming up the top and sides and evenly stretching the material as I tack it down. Once the middle to the front section looks perfect, then I start working from the middle to the back using the same strategy by warming up the seat and evenly stretching the material to remove any wrinkles while tacking it down as I work my way from the middle to the very back.

I only first tack my seat covers down with staples every so often just incase I need to make changes and once the seat cover is perfect in terms of being positioned evenly where I want it and without wrinkles, then I'll fill in the gaps with more staples. After the seat cover is stapled down good, I’ll trim any excess material with a razor blade.

Installing a seat cover is not that hard to do. I’ve had excellent results using the same techniques as I described above for most every seat cover I’ve done, including the seat covers I’ve made by hand from materials purchased an upholstery shop. If you’re installing a graphics package, then you’ll have to be a bit more careful on where things line up, but this is a job that a careful do-it-yourself type person can do with very good results.

Damn Motor bike Mike thanks for the offer but I live in the Bay Area and its a little far but I sure appreciate the offer.

I did get the seat stitched on and went out on a long ride but guess what everybody? Could you ever even guess?

I hate the god dam thing!! it makes me sit too damn high on the bike and makes it harder to control. Yamaha lowered the seat in 05 and gave the rider better control and I totally reversed that whole thing.

Maybe I shouldn't have got the tall seat but no matter because I am putting my stock one back on tomorrow.......... Oh whats that I hear????? The wife says she threw away my stock seat foam needless to say I ran outside to the garbage can in front of the whole neighbor hood and I dug it out of the trash can (of course it was at the bottom) and not only does it have crap all over it but my son stomped the garbage can to make more room for extra stuff and now my seat foam looks like a Mexican sombrero

So now I am just screwed because the stock foam is flat and disfigured and I have a seat on my bike that hinders my riding ability.

This is not something you could get used to either, because of the way I sit on the bike now the front end keeps wanting to wash.

Any ideas? does Moose racing make a OEM seat for a WR450? I see on there website they make it for a YZF450 but no mention of the WR.

Any help would be appreciated.
