Xr 650 R Vs Xr 650 L

I recently purchased a 2002 xr 650 brand new, i am looking for any info that would help me to be able to ride this beast on the roads, as far as I know it must be taken thru a DOT inspection any ideas as to what is required?

probably took the TV set off the rear fender and unsmogged, and possibly lost 20 pounds on the personal diet.

Add to that getting rid of steel handlebars, stock headlight unit, steel tank & wings, passenger pegs and stock exhaust, and you have substantial weight savings.
