looking for 650r e-start

Recommended Posts

I added the Baja one to my BRP and it sure made life more pleasant. Expensive but well worth it. It works great and probably delayed knee replacement for a few years.

I know I am new around, not new to the 650R but...I dont really see a need for an e-start...infact I am kinda against it! On both the 650R's I have had it was usually a 1-2 kick affair. I checked out the BD kit and teh weight and cost just doesnt seem worth it.

Then there is the thing about putting e-start on bikes that may encourage a lot of folks to ride them who shouldnt...kinda like allmost all cars are automatic...and gawd I wish most were manual...it would keep a lot of tards off the road I am sure.

Just wondering if I am in the minority...I love my kickstart NSR250, and love it on the XR...<shrug>

I have the Baja Designs kit on mine. I looked at the Joe Racer kit and read reviews of it from those who bought it. No one who reviewed it was happy. So I went with Baja Designs cause I have used their products and they stand behind what they sell. I love the Baja Designs starter. The battery sits right under the carb so all the weight is down low. It adds a bit less than 14 pounds to the bike.

I did not buy the kit because the bike was hard to start. It's easy to start specially with the edelbrock carb which also have. I bought it cause I was sick of getting myself stalled on the side of a hill where there was little room to move around and trying to balance a 300 pound bike on the edge of a narrow trail and kick it over was not any fun at all. That doesn't happen all that often but when it does the e-start is worth its weight in gold.

For those of you cave men who still want to retain square wheels go ahead I will always admire you but I'm just not a cave man. I don't mind what the future has brought to off road motorcycling. I think you should get rid of the Uni shock and go back to duals too.

:naughty: August and Troy Bell, :naughty: The stock form of this motor is a breeze to kick, but put a 12.1 103mm piston in to and a stage 2 cam in it. Then mount the motor in a z400 frame, this causing you to not be able to get a full kick on the motor( at most 1/2 of the kick that you get when it on the BRP) . If you can start this motor by kicking it I will put I AM A TARD on the bike and rike it like that, but until then PISS OFF!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate it when people start to pass jugdement on pople before they no the whole story, most of us around here think very little of those weak minded people and try to over look them!

Everyone else thank you for your reply!

I have no problem kicking mine over in most normal (flat ground), however, I've had a few times when kicking the beast over meant falling down a hill. Wound up rassling the heavy pig around until I had a less precarious vantage point. Would have paid a lot for the magic button right then.

650 racer did you notice the smiley after my comment? I think it is you who needs to lighten up before telling me and others to PISS OFF! It was passed on as a good humor statement, not me bashing anyone.

Woah, take it easy, I was not knocking anyone for having an e-start, I would probably like it if I had it to...and it sounds like your bike/creation is a whole 'nother animal all together and all bets are off :D

I was just doing a general rant against e-buttons and auto trannies...just so you know I am not really so militant when it comes to the e-start as I am auto trannies...I am still amazed I had to order my 2003 Silverado with a 5 speed as there were noone available in 3 western states!! :naughty:

There is just something old skool about the kick, reminds of growing up in the late 70's early 80's when my grizzled old biker neighbor would kick start his Harley's...before it was cool to have a Harley....

So no hard feelings, to each thier own...but if Honda adds an e-start they better keep the kicker... ? Carry on... :D

I was of the same opinion that real men kick their bikes, but after a huge get off while pre-running for the 250, and kicking the bike for 20 minutes to start it while being totally drained is for the birds. Raced a Husky 510TE in the 250 w/elec. start, what a dream! Little down on power, but since all racers will crash, its nice just to push the button and go.

  • 1 month later...

How easy was this Estarter to install? (Baja Design one) I am looking into it and almost ready to purchase it. Is it also waterproof? I ride in lots of mud and sometimes have to splash through some large deep puddles. Will it handle alot of water??

Thanks in advanced
