You probably should be asking this in the drz or kdx thread. I haven't ridden both of these bikes but I can tell you that for the mountains I would go with a 4 stroke (for the good low end on the hills) and as long as you aren't doing anything too extreme, and air cooled engine. You will get more power out of a liquid cooled bike but you want simplicity in the mountains.

Get the KDX living in Colorado and Wyoming I have ridden in the mountains a time or three. I use to race KDX's and they are great bikes. They make way better power and are lighter than the DR-Z. Not to mention you can find more after market parts for the KDX to make it a good bike.

The KDX220 is one of the best trail bikes ever made.
Goes anywhere.
Cheap to keep.
Best bang for the Buck!
Good Luck!

Sorry...I gotta disagree.
Big Tank.
Kick-Stand.
Spark-Arrestor.
Odometer.
Quiet.
Comfortable enough for the Average Rider on a long trail-ride!
For myself, AA Off-Roader, sure...I'm with ya; however, just a few years ago I had an absolute BLAST at the Adelanto G.P. on one of the Marketing Departments "Fleet Bikes" (As in STOCK!) and I had a blast radin' the wheels (And the Headlight ass'y
) off of that thing!
Adjusted the preload. Put some spacers in the forks (Stiffen it up the Poor-Boy way!
) Added some rebound, out-back and Voila...
Top 20 in all 4 classes I road over 2 days and never started higher than 141st! I was up against 250s and 500s in all the classes.
The bike made it almost TOO EASY!
Top speed was better than most.
Suspension did REALLY well!
And all this on a bike that the average guy can take home for well under$4K!
That's my point...

I definetly need to get larger Gas Tank.Ive been for someone to come out with a 3 gallon or more tank for kxf.Im not willing to pay $200 for aftermarket tank that only holds 1/2gl. more than the stock tank.

The KDX. Everyone shoudl own one of these bikes. I woudl much rather have a drz for the track, but offroad the kdx is tough to beat.
The 200 kdx is much nicer, in my opinion. The 220 has a smaller carb.
