new header, is new gasket necessary?

I got a FMF powerbomb header and was wondering if a new gasket is in order or will the existing gasket be re-usable? Do I need an FMF specific header gasket or is it the same as the stocker?

This is in regards to where the header attaches to the cylinder.

The stock gasket doesn't fit very well. It squishes in and restricts the flow. I use 10 guage copper wire and shape a gasket.

any pics by chance? Wouldn't it leak where the two wire ends meet?

Don't reuse one. It won't compress to conform to the new header properly.

On your question re: the butted ends of a piece of 10ga wire, if the wire is long enough so that it just fits into place end to end when pushed all the way out against the sides of the seal pocket, the ends will be forced together as it crushes, so it won't leak. Obviously, you have to fit it carefully.
