I beleive the crf is geared for a higher speed.
Its all gearing my friend.
YZF has the better motor, these bikes arn't geared for drag so if your into drag you should know it's all about gearing.

I think a de-stroked CR500 turned into a 450 would be faster. haha. seriously, most people don't just drag race their bikes constantly, so it doesnt matter. the two bikes would be so increadibly close in a drag race, it wouldnt matter. The bikes have different internal gear ratios, so it would be pretty hard to give the two bikes the exact same gear ratio required to test the bikes in a fair drag race. I would put my money on the honda, I just don't like yamaha, thats the only reason/

what you wanna do is sleeve a 600 sportbike engine down to 450cc, taking care to replace the stock exhaust bearings and powerband with aftermarket ones. than install this engine in any mx frame (it should bolt right on) and gas her up. then you will have the fastest 450 on the block.

I have been thinking of installing a new power band on my 426. I have heard it is cheaper than a rebuild. :)

My brother in law has a CRF and we race each other at least once a day when we ride. Sometimes he wins, sometimes I win. They are pretty close matched. Our skill level is very close. So it really depends on which one is wearing the race face that day.

I told you it was not popular......makes shelling out $6000 for a new 450 hard to swallow.

HOWEVER.....the 450 is lighter , better suspended and handles better. But that is not what we were talking about. :)

However the fastest 450 is the one with the better rider on it .......
