I'd like to get my rims painted black but I just can't afford to by a new set of black Excel rims.

I tought about powder coating...do you guys think it's worth it? Tough enough to withstand sand and rocks for a long time?

Would spray paint be better? :)

I thought black would be cool, but it doesn't hold up. Even a moderate ride will subject your rims to a sand and rock blasting that black will expose quickly.

Search google for TCR wheels, your rims should be excels (as yammy's come with em, right guys? CRF boy here spying on you), TCR will anodize them for pretty cheap.
