Hi all-

For the last 18 years, I've never bought an ORV sticker for any of my bikes. So, just yesterday, I figured I'd be legal this time and went out and bought an Oregon ORV tag. When I was there, the lady getting me the tag told me that it was good in Or, Washington, and Idaho also. I didn't believe this so I looked all over the net and couldn't find anything about it. Is this true? Does it matter that I live in Washington instead of oregon??

Thanks,
Fritz

Oregon ORV stickers are good in at least OR, WA, and ID. :)
It's $6.25 / year well spent.
Also, I've been checked 3 times at Browns camp in the last year.

A message of clarification--If you are a Washington resident, then you must have Washington ORV tags or license plate. Most states offer reciprocity when it comes to licensing and registration. What that means is if you are from Oregon and want to ride in Washington, your Oregon ATV stickers are honored in Washington state for up to a certain number of days per calendar year. It is the same thing if a Washington rider wants to ride in Oregon or Idaho with Washington ORV stickers, the other states recognize the out of state tags for up to a number of days.

The tangle comes when a Washington rider rides in Washington with an out of state ATV/ORV/OHV tags. A smooth talking operator could probably wiggle out of a ticket, but the rules require home state riders must have home state tags.

Another important issue is where does the money go? Oregon ATV funds stay in Oregon. They aren't going to build or maintain one foot of trail in Washington state. Some would argue that neither does Washington ORV funds given the fact there hasn't been any new trails built in this state in years, but you get my point.

Ride on.

If you live in WA, you'll need a WA ORV tag, then you're good for the neighboring states. Unless you have a Oregon drivers license and a hauler that's Oregon plated, you'll have hard time getting away with a OR tag.

The problem for me is that my bikes are thoes older Enduro types. They were built back in 79 and 74, and have the old frame numbers on them. The problem is that we got them out of a junk yard, and for all I know, they could be stolen. I have a bill of sale from the previous owner, but I don't think that it would hold up if the original owners wanted them back. I heard that for washington tags, you have to register the bike in order to get it, in which they could tell if they were stolen or what. Whereas in oregon all you have to do is give them the VIN number and vwal-la you have a tag and are at least some-what legal.

Fritz, you can get ORV tags for it, even without a title. As long as it hasnt been reported stolen. There is a hoop to jump through to get oRV tages on an untitled bike. And you can apply for a title, but it requires a 3 year wait before you actually get the title. It may not be a bad idea to try this, it has to be better than getting stopped riding a bike thats been stolen (or reported as such in your case) and if you can find the original owner, you can have his sigh an avidavit for lost title and get one quickly, thats if he doesnt want his bike back! :) As for ORV tags, if your an Oregon resident with ORV tags or an Oregon plate, it will be honored here in WA :)

I wish it was only $6.50 in our State. In Washington our ORV stickers have nearly trippled to $21.75 and they are trying to shut us down. Maybe some of you guys haven't gotten your Vehicle Renewal Notices yet, but they are no longer $7.50. So on my daughters quads I am not renewing, they are only ridden on our property, at least until the State passes either HB 1455 or SB 5089. I don't have 30 or more acres to get the 600ft buffer zone to operate on my own property.

I'm not sure where you got your permit, but the stores that sell them are only supposed to charge $10.50, maximum. If you have the white copy of your permit, I would look in the "fee" box and if it says more than $10.50, contact the State Parks office.

Fritz, in Washington, they do honor your Oregon ORV tags here. Now if we could jus tget Oregon to do the same for us Washontonians. I never ride off road down there just for that reason.
