Well its been a week sice I gazed upon this wonderfull site and I see "ninnies" are still complaining about starting...

Let me tell you about my weekend. My wife gave me a whole weekend off to work on the bikes and ride. My first action was to do all the free mods to my 01 WR 250F. Well to make a long story short... everything was done already. Throttle stop, yz timming,no bk mod needed, and I cut the grey wire months ago when I first bought it used. So here I was with a bike that ripped! ALREADY!

So I go out riding and wouldn't you know it? last ride of the day, I have a bit of a get off. I knew when i got up that my wrist was broken. Later on I found out that it was shattered. Well anyway I managed to pick the bike up and pull the hot start, clear the piston (about 7 kicks) and do the drill and it starts right up!

However when I put my hand on the throttle I realized i could not ride. Right wrist broken. So I shut the bike off found a stick and taped it to my srm as a splint. By then the guys riding with me came back on the trail to see what hapend to me. Luckily I was able to give a two stoke rider a quick lesson on the starting drill to get my bike lit off and rode to the nearest fire road (while I walked) and then I rode fire roads/pavement to my truck, so wifey and kids could ask one million questions, I drink many beers, set up baby sitting for four kids and then to the ER. That resulted in sugery 8 days later.

And at least 10-12 weeks before I can ride such an awsome machine.

Moral of the story: Jet your bike properly, know it intimintly, and you won't be sorry even when your stuck on the trail with a broken wrist!

Ouch this really hurts!!!!!!!!

That must be driving you crazy.

We must have a lot in common, I too just came off a big bore 2-stroke. An ATK 406. The WR250 is so much fun to ride, I really don't miss the power of thw bigger bike.

Have fun and hope you get to ride soon.

Oh man, I just shudder when I hear broken wrist! I broke..no destroyed my left wrist two years ago. 4 hours of surgery, five pins, crushed median nerve and 4 months of the most agonizing pain EVER! It still hurts and I have about 70% movement. The cool thing is the wrist therapist is a total motocross freak. She would take me right away, and she made me the coolest carbon-fibre riding cast so that I could do a little riding in the early stages. I bought a new 2000 KX 250 and the first bloody ride I was coming up to a double and the bike shifted into false nuetral, can you say ENDO? It turns out the shifter drum had a defect. Anyways, I go for a ride 5 months after the break with my CF cast on and I'm putting around in 2nd gear for about 5 minutes and the crank seizes!!!! Another defect the crank halves were pressed to tight. Kawi came good for it all but I was pissed. So the next spring I tried my buddies 250F and the next day traded the snotcycle in on a 250F. I read that one guy said he doesn't miss the power of the 2smoker and I have to agree, the 250F is so easy to ride and handle, I would never go back to a 2 stroke. Well it's a sad story but it had to be told! cheers, Pilot :) :D
