Does anyone use the Scotts stainless steel oil filter? It says it can be washed, but the picture looks the same as the stock part? How is it different from stock? What gives??

You already answered one of your questions. The difference is it IS stainless steel.
Yes it can be washed about a zillion times with brake cleaner.
It traps WAY smaller particles than the cheap stocker. I put mine in at the first oil change and never looked back.

I agree with Randy, it is much more durable than the stocker. You will see that when you change the oil. It is pricey but, very high quality and you will never buy another filter again. I clean mine with some contact cleaner and then blow it out with a compressor. I don't think the stacker could take much of that. Good luck.

The stock filter works just as well as the Scott's. Maybe it filters a few minutely smaller particles but is that necessary? You can clean one many times before it needs replacing. I keep a spare on hand in case of tears or breaks but have never had one. It lasts quite a long time. You can easily get 6 months out of one. I finally replaced it just because I felt bad. Just inspect and clean regulary and keep an eye on the rubber seals at each end.
