Ok
Now I know what I am doing
working with my 11 year old and he has
been showing me how to jump some small
doubles. We show up on Sat at Sunrise.
Riverside Old Timers Novice class.
At the gate I am sandwiched in between 2
426's and I cant hear. the gate drops and
we take off. I am behind the 2 426's and I
remember i have a big bike now and I throttle
up and squirt between the two thumpers. Lo
and behold I am in mid pack after the first turn.
I take the first few jumps and start clearing the
stepups, passing guys who are rolling them.
I even passed some guys in the class ahead
of me.
Next few turns I pass a couple more. I am
having fun. I get in a bubble in lap 2 and
kinda stay there, I am around 3rd or 4th outta
7. I work on clearing all those stepups that
have been causing me problems before and I
was doing it! Then in lap 4 my arms go south.
now I am just hanging on for the last lap.
I get passed by 2 guys and end up 5th in the first
moto. But I competed for awhile anyway! that was
cool. 2nd moto I am dead tired and in survival
mode. Stay otta peoples way and dont crash.
5th again. Alot better than dead last in my
first race! I am as sore as i have ever been.
I have raced in Nat'l mountain bike races for
1.5 hours at 9,000 to 10,000 feet and not been this
sore. But what a hoot! My 11 year old finished
4th of 20 in the 80 class in his first race ever
and the 6 year won both motos in the 4-6 year old
class. What a great sport!
