I was wondering if anyone mounts their compression lever below the clutch? I know that it would be devestating to pull it in while the bike was running, but I'm afraid during a fall it might it pushed in. How can you guard against that happening? :)

If you leave it up, push it inward as far as you can, I have a real nasty scare on the back of my hand behind the index finger from going over the bars but the lever didn't want to let me go :D
I've heard people say when they put it down they've kneed it in a turn :)

I run my decompression lever below my clutch because every once in a while when i wasn't thinking i would pull it in with the engine4 running. That didn't sound to good. It's just a safeguard against myself. I have the bark busters on my bike, so im not too worried about breaking it. Those bark busters are well worth the money. One day i broke 3 clutch perches on my 125. They have saved me from ruining a few of my weekends riding.

I mount the compression lever below the clutch lever because is just plain wierd in the stock
position above the clutch lever. It's easier to
reach under the clutch lever than trying to use your thumb to operate it above. Have not had any problem hiting lever with leg. ~w~

I like mine above the clutch lever.

Especially for bump starting doing down hill.

I have the clutch lever down low so I can position the comp lever level with the bar/bark buster so it doesnt stick up. That way you can use your index finger to actuate the comp lever.

Also, it is easier to start the bike in gear with this configuration. Pull in the clutch with your ring, middle and pinky, then pull in the comp lever with your index finger.

Works every time.

I love crashing!

I moved mine below the clutch lever and it accomplishes 2 things 1) It makes me move way up on the seat to grab it and that helps my kick during starting , and 2) There is a lesser chance of the lever breaking during some of my more spectacular crashes! Good luck!!

you can put it anywhere and anyway you want.
just make sure that when the bars go lock to lock they don't pull the cable and engage the decomp!
Mr.Bandicoot has his on the right so that when he pulls it he KNOWS he's not twisting the throttle at the same time.

like mxoldtimer, i have mine up and on the left.
i BROKE mine with the back of my hand as i tried to go over the bars (prevented by the tree i tboned). it took the bone doc (and his 2 buddies) 9 xrays before they said my hand was not broke. they are only $4, so by 2 and keep a spare, thus ensuring you never break it again.

I just picked up a sweet setup by Applied at my local Yamie dealer. They make a great clutch lever/perch and a matching decomp. lever that replaces the bottom of the clutch perch. Looks a lot like the Honda 450 hot start lever.

The clutch pull is SO much easier and the decomp. lever is really tucked away nicely. Bought the entire setup and an aftermarket brake lever for about $64.

I bought the Works Connection Pro perch with D-Comp lever underneath the clutch lever. Access to the D-comp lever is horrible in this position! I went back to the stock lever, mounted to the right of the clutch perch, on top. I can pull in the clutch and Dubach hot-start, bump the dcomp lever and light up the motor without taking my hands off the bars. You can also pull in the clutch and dcomp lever together, let out the clutch, then the dcomp lever to bump start the bike. You don't need much speed at all, just remember to use 2nd gear or higher to get the best leverage on the motor.

Exactly how I have it too. Works great that way.

Is there a after market clutch/comp sombo that has the comp on the top?

I love crashing!

I bought one at Flanders...http://www.flandersc...om/Feature.html

It's a replica of the Honda XR650R model, clutch with compression release lever integrated (above clutch). Works great. You can get it with shorty lever too.

Wow,thanks for the info! The Flanders parts looks great and is a great deal as well. I haven't seen what the Applied racing perch w/decomp lever looks like 'cause the web page is being updated but I really appericiated everyone's input. Thanks.

I bought the Yammie GYT-R Thumb decompressor..one word SAWEEEEET! Last summer I had some guy bail in front of me and I nailed his bike, It sent me over the bars and I planted my fore head on the original decompressor and recieved a nasty gash, goose egg(which is still there)and a dirt knap. I have the Magura Hydraulic clutch which comes with the Decom. lever built in, but the GYT-R lever is much better and looks trick!
My 2 cents. Cheers, Pilot
