This is my first Yamaha. ('02 WR250F) Long-time woods rider....Just came off an RM. The Yamaha's power is truly sweet, and the suspension is awesome. While my RM was not the most reliable, I've never had a bike that handled/cornered SO well! Happy with my Yamaha, but the bars feel in my lap when standing, and the front wheel feels vague in corners. Does someone offer a tripple clamp set that will give me more bar-position choice AND a steeper fork-offset?
thanks....happy trails!!!

What front tire do the WR's come with?? The YZ-F's come with the Dunlop 739 which is junk. Have you tried rotating the bars forward?? That might give you some room until you decide on a clamp.

Were you running the same front tire(739>JUNK) on your RM? The M-12 or S-12 michelins are sweet and don't wear out too fast. I'm running an Applied top triple clamp with CR high Renthal Fat bars mounted in the forward position, I've heard that Pro tapers are available in a narrower version for woods riders.

Put more weight on the front wheel by either sliding the forks up in the fork tubes or cranking down on the shock preload ring. Also get a good tire on the front.

I know what you mean about the riding posistioning. I installed ProTaper Triples and put the mounts in the forward mounting posistion which looks +10mm. I also rotate my bars RC bend renthals forward. But I still feel like I am over the top of the clamps, especially when you get that 4 stroke braking it feels like you will go over the bars. I dont have this problem on my CR125 which has a lot more room. I am going to try dropping the footpegs a 1/2" and getting some taller mounts. I figure this will open the riders area up a little giving a little better geometry with more of my weight below the bars when standing. Also as to the front wheel feeling vague I would have to say it is a little bit of suspension set up plus the stock tires. I like the Dunlop K490 it has great feel. Remember the 739F front tire is a special Four Stroke model with stiffer side walls, I am 90% sure maybe someone can verify this. Anyway goodluck...

Nothing turns like a Suzuki. In addition to what everyone else said about tires and 3-clamps also pitch the stock tank & seat and get the YZ seat and an aftermarket tank to allow you to get up on the front end easier. Have fun they are great bikes.

I have a 20" front tire. Seems to stick pretty well in mud and dry. Only problem is limited availability of tires in that size.

I love crashing!

I came off of a cr125 last year, and it took me a while to sort cornering. I swapped the front tyre for a michelin, learnt to move way up front in the turns , and lowered the forks in the clamps by about 10mm. I also bought some Tag alloy bars. Worked for me, + u need time to get used to it.

I have an '01 YZ250F and the front seemed to push in the corners. Tried raising the forks in the 3clamp from 5 to 10mm - then it dived too much. Tried different clicker settings on the front forks- two clicks softer on the rebound helped, but not quite there. What made it spot on for me - set the sag at max (per the manual - 100 mm or ~4 inches). I'm 180 lbs. It took a few weeks of riding before the rear spring broke in. It took a little longer before the front forks started to soften up.

I'd ride it hard several times before trying to dial in the suspension.

I've edited this thing twice. I know what I did, but can't seem to get it write in writing.

I've been riding my 02 WR250 fow a couple weeks now with the IMS tank/YZF seat combo, and I really think it makes a difference turning! You're able to get more forward on the seat, more weight on your front. I haven't yet expirimented with sliding my fork tubes up in the triple clamps, I'll wait till I get my steering stabilizer mounted. I love the way my WR turns,it feels as good as my 99 RM but without as much headshake at speed in the desert!
