I need someone with some knowledge that can tell me how I can get the radiator shrouds from a 00-02 yz426 to fit a 99 yz400. The rest of the plastic goes on fine (except the fron number plate), but how will the shrouds fit? Would I need to get a 426 fuel tank? Would it fit? please help :)

Yes it will fit, perfectly. 98-02 Yamaha's use the same plastics.

Are you just making stuff up? Have you had first hand experience? I have, and the shrouds don't fit. The bottom mount isn't lining up right. The front number plate is different also but I'm not worried about that.

Dude,

it should fit the plactics are a mirror image and if go out and buy graphics for a Yz-F you willl see in the book that the graphics fit all Yz-F's 1998-2002. So i dont know why you are having problems! :)

The graphics fit fine its the actual plastic shroud. Yes the 426 lower mount goes in at an angle while the 400 one is straight on, but it just doesn't seem to line up at all :). The top two mounts do but the lower one :)

If you really must use 426 plastic on a 98/99 400 you could buy 426 radiators. They will bolt on the 400 no problem - then your 426 shrouds will match right up. Expensive solution but the 426 radiators are larger and stronger and will make your 400 run cooler. I've swapped radiators between 400 and 426s. I actually put 400 radiators on a 426 to save weight (smaller and less water - just ran waterwetter to compensate).

YOu need the 426 or IMS aftermarket radiators to make the newer 00-02 shrouds to fit.

Front number plate, all you need to do is make a 90* angle bracket and weld a nut on it for that to work.

So you still have the left over 426 radiators laying around?? :)

No the 426 rads are on a 400 and the 400 rads are on a 426. I have 3 of these bikes and over the years all the parts are jumbled. Have a 426 engine in a 400 frame and vice versa. At one point I even had one 400 radiator and one 426 radiator on a 426 in a 400 frame (just used 2 different year shroulds).
