Cam Chain Confusion

I thought when you released the tensioner you could just slip the chain off. I guess I was wrong. I had to remove one of the cams to get it off which is not a huge ordeal. Is there another way that you guys do it?

No just the hard way. It can also be a bit tricky to get the cylinder head off with the engine still in the frame but it is possible. Be careful not to drop anything..
