wr 450 lowering link now available

Recommended Posts

I got semi excited when I read that Kouba has a lowering link available for the WR450. A quick trip to the Kouba website only yielded a link to the Mountain Motor Sports website. Needless to say I am disappointed. The over priced link from MMS has already been discussed on TT.

Look at the comments MMS makes about their own products.

[This product is designed for trail riding and not competition.]

[This is not to be used in race application!]

Do any of us really not ride the hell out of these bikes at times although we are not always in a race/competition every minute? If the manufacturer makes comments about their own products like the ones above how can you have any real long term confidence in their product. If a few guys are serious about getting their bikes lowered, maybe as a group purchase one of these links, take it to a machine shop and cut a few to reduce the overall cost. Otherwise its a overpriced rip-off IMO.

I am short and I can barely touch the ground on my WR450. But this thing sounds too scary to try. It looks like it would really screw up the sag and steering geometry as well. ? I think I will just stick to falling over when I lose my balance rock crawling. ? At least the bike is tough enough for crashing! ?

I purchased the link and used it on my bike for a few months. It did lower the bike by about an inch. It was not too hard to change it back and forth between the stock and lower settings.

It made the rear end of the bike pretty soft. Anyone over 225 pounds probably should not use.

In the end . . . I have removed the link. I decided to bit the bullet and send my bike to Devol's to get the bike professionally lowered and revalved for my weight and height. (Cost around $500).

If anyone is interested in the link, I will sell it much cheaper than what I paid for it.

Indy, I'm short also(5'9") and I cut my seat down. Made a world of difference when I need to dab. I can even kickstart my bike without putting it on the stand now. See here I did have to get the IMS lowboy pegs though to keep my legs from tucking up to far to shift or use the rear brake.

Chiefsfan kinda beat me to it, but what do you guys consider short? I'm a hair over 5'10" barefoot, with a 31" inseam & I have no problems with my stock height '04 wr450... I can at least touch the balls of both my feet to the ground on level ground.

I'm the tallest midget alive at a stout 5'10" . I tippie toe around OK on my WR. I actually put a tall seat on it too. The seat compresses down to about the stock seats height but feels 100% more comfy. That shaved down seat made my ass hurt just looking at it. :naughty:

I've found that winters spent drinking beer and eating potato chips has made my legs longer because I can almost touch the ground flat footed, last year I was on my toes. :naughty:

I think I would cut the seat down too long before trying a lowing link. That just screws up the suspension geometry too much. As far as the seat being too thin, you should be standing up most of the time anyway! LOL Yeah, I also ride more like Rodney Smith and Scott Summers than Jason Raines. It's hell getting old and lazy! I do think I'll be cutting the foam down though.
