Hi
Has anyone rewound their EXCITER coils, that is the ignition coils not the lights? I can find lots of posts, all i can find is lighting...

Im after the number of turns made on each of the two stator bobbins. I tried to count them off as i unwound but they were so poor that it proved impossible to track. Obviously the exciter windings use much thinner wire than the 18 guage lights.

Ideally the wire thickness and the number of turns on one exciter coil would be great please.

There is a site that talks about doing it on the older XRs that had the exciter coil go out, but I cant remember offhand where it was. A google search will probably find it though. IIRC the process was for an older XR6.

The procedure is the same as winding a lighting coil except you use stock gage wire, which is probably 22-28. There are so many turns that you'd probably be fine just wrapping on the new stuff until its the same size as the old coil.
