2001 yz426f auto decompression HOTCAMS

I had just recently bought a 2001 yz426f. I have heard that this bike has a lot of engine break, and when you are hitting jumps the front end tends to dive down if not on the gas. (because of the engine break) I have also heard that its so bad its dangerous. So asked around and a few guys said to get an Auto Decompression cam from HOT CAMS. So what i am asking is....Will this cam take away some engine break? and Will i be able to take out/off the decompression lever?

you dont have to have hotcams you could just buy a yzf 450 exhaust cam that will do the trick it fits straght in and you can get rim of the de comp leaver but you will need a de comp plug after you have done this but the tt shop sells them ? as for the engine breaking i cant help you on that one ?

1) Whoever told you the engine braking was dangerous either must not know how to ride, or has never ridden the bike themselves. I ride an 01' myself and the engine braking is no problem at all. No it does not dive when you're in the air, yes you can hit jumps with the throttle closed and still fly level, and yes if you jump with the throttle closed you'll need slightly different body positioning than with a 2-stroke, but it's very natural. You'll pick it up on the first lap. Even my 2-stroke buddies have jumped on this thing and not had a problem. However I do not advise chopping the throttle while on the face of the jump just prior to takeoff, that might cause you to fly a tad nose low. ? <--- I love this cripple guy

2) If you want to eliminate the need for the manual compression release then yes you can get something like the hot cams exhaust cam or many people have used the 450 exhaust cam with much success.

Ride the bike before you do anyhting. Personally I like the engine braking. In technical sections you can often get away without needing to use the rear brake. The 01' is a great bike, I know, I own one. ?

I'm w/ thumpalot here. I've got pretty much a bone stock 01 and I've never had a problem w/ chronic nose dive because of comp braking. If anything, I think the bike floats great and the nose comes down naturally. There is no need to tap the rear brake. Your momentum is maintained and its easier to blast the throttle a 1/2 sec. before you land.

Ride it man. Use the comp. braking to your advantage. You can come into corners butter smooth and fast w/out touching the brake. There are benefits.

I havent heard too many guys here say they dont like the performance of the 01. The only complaint is the weight.

And its bulletproof, it really is.

Amen. The comp braking is great once you get used to it. You can come into corners hotter and brake later than a 2-stroke. As far as jumping, the 426 is always neutral and predictable. I've owned an '01 426, an '02 250F, and now I'm back on an '02 426 and all I can say is, these bikes are absolutely BULLETPROOF and a blast to ride. Best bang for your buck.? :cry:

from my experience it is like this with all four-strokes, if you let off the gas before your back wheel comes off the lip you will endo. this is because thumpers decelerate as soon as you let off the gas whereas two-strokes do not. the "secret" is to just let off the gas once your in the air.

I have the hot exhaust cam. Starts on first kick. Valve overlap is a huge issue. Easy to shim. Every 16 hours or until it slaps and stutters. Great bikes. Just need love every season

Holy thread resurrection batman. Almost 15 years later. Sounds like your bike needs a new head
