My bike is a XR650R, I want to install a larger tank. IMS, Clarke or other?
Anybody have any suggestions, also if you have pics of your tanks installed on XR650R. Can you post them.

This has been discussed thousands of times denro. You can do a quick search and find more than enough info. I, personally have the clarke and like it. It's cheaper than the IMS, looks good, and matches the stock color to a tee.

I have the IMS tank and think it looks and feels like it was meant to be. I have no experience with the clarke tank, but with other responses i've heard they are just as good. You can't go wrong with either. Sorry can't post pics I need a kid to show me how.

I've owned a couple different fuel tanks for the 650r and my favorite in terms of size is the IMS 3.2. It's noticibly narrower than the Clarke 4.3 and IMS 4.6 and allows you to more easily scoot up on the tank when needed. The downside is your range is liimited to ~85 to ~135 miles depending on your riding conditions, riding style, gearing, etc. On longer desert rides, I can always get 100+ miles from my tank, which is enough for me. If you need more range, then you'll definitely need a larger tank. My Clarke 4.3 had a little better fit and finish than all of my IMS tanks and I thought the Clarke also had a better color match in red. All my IMS tanks required me to trim one of the Honda radiator shrouds so it would fit properly where as the Clarke just bolted right up without issues. If you happen to have a California 650r with the pairs smog equipment installed, then the newer Clarke tanks will not fit unless you remove the smog equipment.

You really can't go wrong with any of these tanks and there are good reasons to own any one of them. If you want the most range, then your choices will be limited to the IMS or Clarke unless you want to go really big with a Dakar type setup from Acerbis, etc. If you find a great deal on a particular tank whether new or used, then that's another reason to consider a particular tank for purchase. If you want the smallest sized tank but need more capacity than the stock tank, then that's yet another reason. I have tanks both in red and natural colors. The red has always looked nice. The natural tank allows you to easily see the fuel level inside, but it does turn a little darker in time and will more readily show skuffs / wear marks from your knees.

as gadsan states, your intentions will drive your choice. The IMS 3.2 is nice and slim and adds a little more range. If you want a larger capacity (or safety net) I highly recommend the Clarke 4.3. Perfect fit right out of the box, no triming required. Note that with all these tanks (including the stocker to some degree) you'll have to tip the bike to the right to transfer fuel to the right half of the tank to get the last of the fuel to the carbs. Also, the Clarke includes a new gas cap (I don't believe the IMS does).

Good luck.....Mike

i have the Clarke 4.3  its a great tank fits good and will give you a 90 to 130 mile range. but i just picked up an IMS 3.2 because my rides are usually down around 50 to 60 miles - i haven't put it on yet but it looks like a great tank for up to about 80 mile desert rides

i have both the 3.2 IMS Drybreak and the 4.6 IMS..both are sitting in the garage...neither is scratched up or anything, but both are 'used'...in good shape.

Gimme $125 pus shipping for each?

I will throw in some shrouds as well...

I now run the 6 gallon Acerbis tank.

Hey Guys,

I found out that even if the tank goes for the starting bid it is cheaper with the link provided and I can get good customer service also. The Ebayer can't do that. Here is the link:

Later, Tony
