Magura Clutches are PANTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

Well.. thats it i've had enough of the thing.....back to cable for me... after going down the lanes all day Whooooping a CRF450..(ha ha ha), the Nipple snaps on the end of the slave cylinder....had to get me mate out with a van to take me home (lucky for me it was the CRF Riders Van), so logic says if it had been a cable Clutch I could of just replaced the cable, and be on me way, plus with the Pipe issues ie burnt through it and then it leaked everywhere enough is enough......

arhhhhh feel better now.... ?

Dangermouse007,

I probably understand what you mean. I was going to fit one of these units myself to my 426 until I had a closer inspection of one.... thought the general design of the slave cylinder and choice of fluid hose material was a load of CRAP ? .... so didn't fit one.

Instead, I made my own unit consisting of the Hebo slave cylinder (with home made mounting bracket), Magura clutch master cylinder (9.5mm bore) and home fabricated braided hose using Goodridge components.... have NEVER had any trouble with it ?

Maybe this would be the route for you.... ?

Stonie.

I have rebuilt my magura system before... upgraded with the newer version of the slave that has a metal cap on it instead of plastic, new stainless steal line, and the new piston for the master.. I think it will be bullet proof... although I have not ridden much since the rebuild... time can only tell ?

? At the risk of being a smart arse here....WHY did you need recovering just cos the Magura had bombed ???? surely you could have ridden without it OK ???

and...why dont you take the lever and cable in a pack with you, 20 mins tops to replace it so the day isnt a wash out !

I always used to and never had a problem ! (WR400) ?

Same reason some guys have had to push their bike out when the Woodruff key broke...they don't think to prepare for it.......... ?

I've ridden several bikes with broken clutch lever/cable, it's pretty easy to do.

hmmmm I'm interrested in How you would ride a WR450 15 miles home with no clutch ???????????? Perhaps someone could advise me on a riding style thats allows this so that I may use this if there is a next time.

As for carrying a spare cable, lever, perch etc, fair point I have order a full cable assembly and spare cable to carry with me....

Bottom line is the Magura is not a very good design... maybe I've just had back luck who knows, but 2 pipes later, and a brocken slave nipples.. enough is enough, at least you know where you stand with a Cable......

To ride without the clutch all you do is start her up in neutral, then get her free wheeling and slip in second, then just change as normal up or down, but let off the throttle when changing to out less preasure on the system:)

Then you stop at a junction and do what ??? I understand all the Cutch and gear changing, stuff been riding for years now... but if you have no clutch and you are 15 miles away from home its pretty dam near impossible to get home, with junctions and roundabouts etc etc etc... thats my point... but thats aside

Magura Clutches are pants, just got a Full YZ450 full Clutch lever and all the bits £15.00... now thats a bargin....oh and spare Cable...

Me happy again now..

Danger, I feel the same way about my Hebo. When it was new it was SWEET... then I went through some water.... and then some more water... The slave cylinder seized and the whole thing just stopped working.. Ever since the water got in the slave cylinder it hasn't been the same. I finally gave and put the Hebo on my Dax.. ? Now, I'm back on the cable... The Hebo unit was nice when new but after a while it became PANTS !!! ?
