I was looking on this forum and saw that a 49 to a 47 sprocket on the rear really makes a difference. But when i was looking it up i saw that one cost about 60$ and i was just wondering if they are really worth it and what set up of sprockets should i get to give me bettter low end but keep some of the mid and high end. I have an RMZ-250 so if anyone has any suggustions please.:worthy: :D

i donno about the sprockets but if you do get a sproket buy a chain to at the same time. if you have an old chain with a new sprocket, the chain will break very quickly.

It won't break the chain, using a new sprocket and an old chain will however result in the sprocket getting worn very quickly. You're better off going up 1 tooth on the front sprocket, the change will be approximately the same (1tooth on the front= 3 teeth on the rear) and the front sprockets are only about 20 bucks. Good luck.

I dont know what stock gearing is on an 04, but the 05 is 12-48. 13-50 is suppose to work real well. Good luck!

The stock gearing on both bikes is definetely 13/48. If you go down to a 12 tooth you will have more low end. BTW, if you're replacing the chain because it's worn then you should also replace both sprockets; if you don't the new chain and new sprocket will wear very quickly.

by going 13/49, you noticed quite a bit of top end loss though correct? WHat kind of riding do you do?

I ride woods mainly, now discovering track, and have heard it's a good idea to go +2 in the rear...anyone running only +2?

If you run out of gear in fifth after the change, then your losing top end. But, for track and woods use the + 1 or 2 teeth is OK. I really like the +1 and powernow combo. The P/N adds to the low end and +1 does not chop to much off the top.

Will a 13-50 make the stock gearing on a 05 slightly higher geared?

No, it will make it lower geared. Or put another way, it will lower top speed but quicken accleration.
