what kind of distance do you get on a tank

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a 2002 YZ426 & am curious how far I can expect to go on a tank.

I realized this varies greatly with rider/conditions/trail, etc... but this is the first "dirtbike" I've owned & I do mostly desert riding - curious how much distance/time most people allow themselves on a tank (bike is completely stock).

My other two bikes are on opposite extremes of this thing ... a Gas Gas 280 pro trials that has a 1/2 gal tank & a KTM 640 Adventure that holds over 7 gallons...

Dont know weather you can be assed converting this but i have a 12.6 litre tank on my 426 (std in Oz) and i get about 170 K's to a tank, in the tight stuff i get about 130 K's hth

Steve.

12.6 litres = 3.326 Gallons

170 KM = 105.6 miles

130 KM = 80.8 miles

Therefore he is getting 24 mpg in tuff stuff and 32 mpg cruising.

? My 99 WR400 with the "Euro" 13L tank on will do over 125 miles on a tank....before all you doubters start....those of you old enough to rememeber "taffy" it is jeted to his specs,

Stock can

150 MJ and a whole host of other things I cant remember right now, so it sip's at the juice...and thats pretty much anything I ride.... the only difference is SuperMoto where it drops to around the 100 mile mark !

my 03 WR450 seems to do around 80 miles or so on a tank.... ?

When riding moderately paced snowmobile trails in Michigan's U.P. I average 50mpg. Yes 50. I can go 100 miles on 2 gallons consistently without worrying about it. I'm not the fastest guy in the woods, but I'm not slow either. With a stock 2.6 gal tank and .5 reserve that comes out to 150 miles if I were to be dumb and press my luck. I haven't yet.

The milage gets worse on single track. I haven't calculated the numbers on S.T. yet.

I have ridden everywhere from desert to mud to pavement to sand to hills to mountains to flatlands and the worst mileage is about 25mpg the average is 30 mpg and the absolute best I can get on a long easy touring ride in the desert is 40 mpg . I just cant see getting 50 mpg in real riding conditions? ?

I dont know how you guys do it? ?
