Forget about the sight window they should have never put that on this bike, fill with the correct amount of oil it's written right on the case if you don't have a manual. When these bikes sit oil wicks up the crank and it makes it look low, if you keep filling it with oil your gonna build up to much pressure & heat and blow something. Just measure the oil going in to the correct amount ie. new filter or not. If your really burning oil if you put your hand over the exhaust while reving it a little you will feel the oil blowing out.

Suz459 is right these bikes have a two part oil chamber and most of the oil sits in the sump part, they always looks like it emty on the sight glass. My mechanic told me to refill what comes out. Don't add more.

All these 250F's use a bit of oil. Usually about 50 - 75cc during a hard 20 minute moto. The piston only has one compression ring and oil does get consumed. The venting system also loses a bit. Which is obvious when too much oil is put into the engine, it drips outthe black over flow hose. If your rings were failing, you could use as much as 200-300cc a moto. Time for a rebuild at that point. But that won't be your problem with a new 2005. Don't rev up your bike before you shut off it off. Let it idle for 20 seconds. This lessens the oil from being dumped into the crank area which will lower the sight glass level. Idling will also let the scavanging pump empty the crank area into the sight glass area. Try draining both oil drain areas and measure what comes out. Let it drain for 1/2 hour if the engine oil is cold. This will tell you how much oil was left in the engine. (Less the oil in the filter etc.)

It is just blowing it out the vent during a ride if you fill it to the middle of the sight glass. Our 04 did the same.

Follow the manufacturer's spec for checking the oil level because it was revised after the first models were released.
