Anyone here installed the Varner shift kit? i know it is installed as the replacement paw guide. If so was the difficulty level high or low for installation. i know the cases have to be split to do this.

I have never installed one but if you have to split the cases you will need some special tools... A case puller, magneto puller and a magneto holder. It is also wise to have a Jig to place between the crank halves so that when you put the cases back together it does not through your crank out of alingment...... Hope this helps.......

The shift plate and shift pawls are accessable from the primary side. Just remove the clutch and is a simple to swap those parts. I actually bought a shift plate from Varner but it didn't help my shifting problem...

My shifting problem had to do with overshifting from 3rd to 2nd. It would blow by 2nd and go into neutral. My '05 already did it once. The only thing that worked (partially) for me was welding a tit onto the the detent arm to put more load on the spring...
