04 WR450 the last real bike!

Recommended Posts

Went to my browser found ther website printed out the membership application dude its in the envelope going out with the morning mail ? I might be a dog but I'll never roll over. ?

Bob, its even easier than that. I went to their website, got the old VISA debit card out and signed up for life membership, cheap at only $250! Took about a whopping 5 minutes of my time! Of course, if anyone else is interested (and you all should be if your not already a member) its at http://www.sharetrails.org ?

I agree with everything Dan said. The '05 is awesome! I needed a green sticker bike so I bought it. I'm 6'3" so I was worried about the lower seat height. Its noticeable but I'm adjusting to it, the main thing is I'm happy with the sitting to standing transition. And it turns better than any bike I've ridden of that class. The new suspension has already saved my ass twice on hard g outs. I can't wait to start racing this bike at D-37 GPs.

If you guys need a bike with 3.5 gals, buy a Honda 650, maybe you like wide bikes. I also have the old two stroke WR250 which has a 3.4 gal tank. Everybody hated the big tank and wanted something smaller to make the bike narrower like the yz. Now you want the big tank again. I have a friend who has a new KTM 525 with the big 3.4 gal tank and he hates it. The bike is narrow but he hates the tank and can't wait to find a smaller one.

I would like to see a different rear fender like the Honda 250X and I wish an aftermarket company would make a front number plate without a headlight that fits on the WR. Those are my only compaints on the new WR!

Non adjustable needle jet.

no fuel screw.

AIS plumbing

smaller radiators.

smaller fuel tank.

Less suspension travel

are all US 2005s like this??

no fuel screw.???????? pump can be removed, tank can change, rads {who cares}, suspension will be fine.

who has carb specs for the 2005 us air pup model?

Hey Indy, you seem way knowledgeable on things.........I want a larger tank for my '05 (you know, the new 'piece a crap' bike ? ), I installed the "lowedog" AIS plug kit which, if anyone is interested, it is a really clean set-up with easy installation instructions.... So I don't think I'll have any issues with the plumbing being in the way. What I think I want is either a 3.1 or maybe the 3.4 gallon. Whichever is cheaper more than likely because either should have sufficient amount for me. I would like to keep it blue though. I believe that the '05's have YZ shrouds. ? So would I need to buy different shrouds or will that work to my advantage that Yamaha changed them to the YZ style? I guess I'll have to breakdown and buy a graphics kit and axe the stock WR style which I kinda like........

any info would be greatly appreciated.

peace

Right now I think your only option is the following:

Blue 2.8 gallon YZ450 tank from Clarke

Code: 1442

Price: $170.00

Capacity: 2.8 gallons. Fits 2003-2005 YZ250F and 450F. Includes a new cap and uses the stock mounts, and petcock. Petcock is on the stock side.

Also fits WR-F250-450 2003-2004 with use of YZ-F shrouds and 2005 WR-F with no seat or shroud change.

If you wait until June you should have more expensive options and slightly larger tanks from IMS and GYTR ?

What does "More expensive options" mean?

Correct me if I wrong, but all aftermarket tanks from Clarke and IMS from 2003-2005 for YZs will fit. Nothing has changed in the tank department right?

I already have a tank from my 3.x ready to go on.. I'm pretty sure it'll fit..

I came in this thread a little late, but for what it's worth - both bikes I bought last year have similar issues regarding smog compliance - and more. My 04 honda CRF250X (bike of the year) comes with no body armor, no protection at all for the engine or aluminum frame - has the "smog pump" which is really just an exhaust fume recycler, and needs a bunch of free mods so it can get out of its own way. I also bought a DRZ-s that comes with a non-adjustable needle and a mickey-mouse fuel vapor cannister that can plug-up the tank vent system.

The yamaha 450 is a very attractive machine, and appears to be lighter than the yet-to-be released CRF450X. Having owned a lot of bikes over the years, I think yamaha builds some of the best when viewed for overall performance and reliability. Aren't they are the only ones with an off-road warranty and a full service manual? I still have my beloved 02 WR426 because it just keeps providing mondo fun and reliability - but I couldn't ride it with the stock bulbous tank.

I have never owned a bike that I didn't put considerable effort into making it right for my personal riding wants; airbox mods, jetting, flywheels, pipes, etc. all that stuff had nothing to do with green sticker - so I don't see that there's an issue at all with the 05's.

Take a look at the IMS/Zip Ty 3.2 tank. I have the clear but I think they offer it in Blue as well. This tank is awsome. It is narrower than stock, very flat and carries the weight lower since it drops down low on both sides. I bought the Zip Ty version since it comes with a petcock for the right hand side as well ?

No Sputter, Yamaha does not have a warranty. Atleast they didn't for the 03 woodruff key problem. And I really dont want to start that debate again. Most dealers stepped up and handled the problem. It was a let down to alot of WR owners. And the 04 fix was not around in 03. Other than that issue in 03 I would have to say that the Wr is rock solid. From the 400 through the 04 450 I have heard nothing but awesome reliability stories from WR owners. I knocked the radiator hose off at the start of a GNCC and the bike finished the 2 hr race. I blew the decompression plug out, lost a ton off oil and the bike finished. It is a work horse. After two years of hard, hard riding I busted third gear on a motorcross track and she's down for the count. Still pulled me off the course. I'm rebuilding old blue and retiring her for trail riding. I'm 6'5 and I'm also concerned about the seat height. Even w/ a tall seat I'm cramped already. I look forward to hearing more responses on the height issue. Just because Dirt Rider says the bike is top heavy doesn't justify lowering the bike. I hope it doesn't feel orange.
