Friend has an 03 yz 450. Most riding will be trails. What would be a good fly wheel to install over stock. Does not want to flame out at slow speeds.

Dump the flywheel, get a rekluse Clutch,

You will never stall it and it will become a woods missle

If he rides mostly trails, use the Dr. D or Yamaha GYT-R 8oz. These are both welded on weights, and as such are more effective per ounce of weight than bolt-on units, because all of the weight is on the OD of the flywheel, instead of 3-5 oz being in the center area where the bolts go. Furthermore, they are always balanced after welding, and can never work loose from the flywheel.

Both Yamaha and Dr.D offer lighter ones as well.

8-10 oz works quite well. Remember that the stock 2004 yz450 has a 5 oz heavier weight than the stock 2003.

GYT-R and Dr.D are both good, but with the GYT-R, you pay $99.95 and get to keep your stock flywheel. This might come in handy as you get more used to the bike, or decide to MX, etc. With the Dr.D, you pay $80.00 and have to send your stocker back. If you get the GYT-R, make sure to get the "Offroad" Flywheel, and not the Ferry Replica that they made to make the 2003 easier to ride MX. Either way, make sure to get a puller when you order your flywheel.
