How many 40+ MX riders out there?

Recommended Posts

Check International Oldtimer Motocross. www.sotmx.com will get you to the Sierra Chapter web site.(links to other chapters) 13 chapters, western US & Canada. Each hosts an International event making a 13 race series. Dozens of guys even on a small turnout weekend. Five classes +40, four classes +50, three classes +50, three classes +60 & +70. Even at least one over 80. Most fun since flat track days in the sixties ?? . I rode +60 Amateur(middle skill class, usually 6 to 12 riders in +60 Amateur with some similar speed classes sharing the moto). Two 15 minute plus a lap motos Saturday and two on Sunday.

Sure beats riding a four lap moto against guys twenty years younger and then sitting bored for four hours waiting for your second short moto!

This is 100% the way to go!

I'm a member of the BCOT club www.bcoldtimers.com , and I have to say that this is sooo much more fun than a regular weekend of moto that has a class for every type / size / model of bike.

There are 13 clubs affiliated, 2 in Canada (BC & Alberta) & the remainder in Western USA (Calif., Ore., Wash., Ida., Nev. & Ariz.)

The groups are set by age & ability (starting at 40 yrs.), the duration set by what group you happen to be in. For many of the classes, you would ride 3 motos on Saturday & 2 on Sunday. The class I'm in, 40 Amateur, has 18 minutes for a race time and I think the expert classes go for 22 minutes. You end up having a really good time for the time & effort spent.

There are also support classes for the young fellas (30-ish) and the youngsters (60 / 85 cc's), so the whole family can go.

I'm 44 this year & have been back for 3 years or so. Raced moto back in high school, stopped in 1980.

My riding partner is 63 & the oldest person at the Oldtimers' races is 83! (go Charlie!!!).

The atmosphere at these races is so laid back, but you're having a good time with people of a similar mindset - have to go to work, kind of thing.

When your going into the first turn or off a jump you need not worry about some testosterone induced 16 year old (sorry fellas), having, um, poor judgment and taking you out as a result. You do have to worry about some old fart having brain fade and nudging you off the track though, so you're in good company!

I'm 37, only been riding for 2 years and I am thinking hard about racing this coming year. I'm not getting any younger after all and I'm damn tired of playing it safe. What the hell.

Go for it. 36 here, started three years ago. This being my third year, I did two races at the end of the year to get that race monkey off my back. ? Now I'm hooked.... ?

51 and if I'm walking, I'm racing. Ride every wed. nite in summer and race every weekend, mx, hr. srambles, enduros, ice race in winter. Ride with a couple of guys older than myself for over 20 yrs. every wed. and still kick each others ass and laugh. If you want some entertainment come watch the Plus 40 class at our clubs ice races at Lembo Lake, Modena, N.Y. Come by the Fun-Mover and have a beer. Merry X-Mas, Steve.

?

that cracked me up; great outlook. ?

... but I think I've only dropped my bike 4-5 times in the past few years and I ride all year long; 20 or so times a year.

Man! I drop my bike 4-5 times a ride! Especially in the desert!

I'm 25 & have been riding for a year. My husband is 42. I bought him an XR650R in March 04. I'm bummed cuz he can kick my butt! jk ?

The way I got it figured, now that Barry Bonds and those other overpaid nutscratchers aren't buying up all my aah... vitamins, I should be able to afford to buy enough aah...vitamins to ride like I was 25 for at least another 10 years (or until my boys shrivel up and fall off) whichever comes first. ?

46 years old here. Started riding when I was 40. I practice and race motocross and arenacross. I am about midpack beginner on a good day. I have collected a lot of good injury stories, but I love the riding, the big air time, the hard exercise, the skill development, the fresh air, hanging out and having fun with friends outside.

I'm 55 and haven't raced MX competitively, in a few years. When I did, I was a mid-pack rider, anywhere from 14th to 18th. Now, I try to get to a local Vet/Vintage race, when i can, but mostly ride MX tracks on practice days. I'm also a member of an Off-Road Vehicle Park, and enjoy doing the trails there. I've been getting very involved in XR50/Z50 bikes, lately. Doesn't take as long to fall, being closer to the ground. ??
